From previous experience, i'm 75% sure that it's a tranny problem.

on a friends 95 eclipse.

the car runs. and goes into gear. the clutch feels like it engages. no slack, or difficulty with the pedal. however, when you let off the clutch, nothing happens.

there's a grinding sound comming from the tranny in neutral, and in gear. when in gear, the car can be pushed, as if in neutral.

on my third gen, when the clutch went out, it was a PIA to put the car in gear, and when i got it going, it made a horrible rubbing sound. and, it didn't like roll very well when it was off either.

so am i 75% right, or am i 75% wrong?

I would say 75% right, is it all gears? best thing to do would be to take a look at the clutch to eliminate it.then to drain the tranny to see if any pieces come out, if you can remove one of the covers to get a good look/feel do so.

it goes into all gears smoothly. with no problems with the shifter, or the pedal. but i would think if it were the clutch, it would be half engaged, half disengaged. making it a PIA to put in gear.

Eliminate the clutch first, i would that that it is the easieast part to get too, after that it could be something fraged in the trans, I suspect a possible busted input shaft or sheard splines, the only way to find out thatI know of would be to drop the trans and open it up.
