Heres the deal. My neighbor just left Tuesday for Iraq. He'll be there for a year. He's mentioned, that when he gets back, he would like to make his SS perform better (I'm assuming make it faster). His wife and I are doing research to possibly have a better performing SS waiting for him when he returns (out little "Overhaulin' "). What mods can we do for his car that will help him out in the speed category? We want to stay under $3000.

Thanks in advance!

None that I know of and I don't know what year it is. I can find out tomorrow about that and if there are any mods.

Alright, what's the deal here? I figure I would have 100's of replies of good advice and suggestions. I have gotten one! Don't further prove to me that you Camaro guys are weak little Sally-boys! Just kidding, but really, is it because I drive a 350Z? I know, I know, it's 2 cylinders short and is fueled by rice and fish (only the fish that are indigineous to Japan and the surrounding Asian coastline). Come on already! The guy is going to be in Iraq for the next year dodging road-side bombs and AK fire. Let's give him a good coming home gift. Jeeez people!

ok, is it an Ls1 car? get him headers, y-pipe, and borla/corsa, whatever you want, a slp/whisper/MTI,TSP lid, if its an auto a stall, and shift kit, port the throttle body. about 3,000 i imagine.

Not trying to be an ass but there are a couple of recent threads floating around talking about the top ten mods you might want to search for those rather than having everybody repost!! Good luck!!!!! And a very VERY worthy cause!!!

Thanks man, I'll do a search. I appreciate it.

BTW it's the newer one with the curvy looking headlights. His wife left today to go home to Vegas for a while. I'm not sure the exact year yet.

Dude, go with some headers and a cat back exhaust. there a lot of different brands out there. I personally went with flp headers and off road pipes. and a lingenfelter muffler and tips. but there are much cheaper things out there. I would definately get a lid, k&n filter, you can find alot of this stuff for cheap on ebay or even here in the for sale section. you need to de screen the maf, or buy an aftermarket one. if it is an 01 or higher it already has the ls6 intake, but if it isnt you need to pull the little pipe out of the front of the intake and cut it off. also there are a few more free mods like this, such as throttle body bypass. but to top the whole thing off get him some juice man. just get a used nitrous kit off someone, probably about 450 bucks. just get the 5177 nos kit. it is simple and easy to install. I'm sure he will greatly appreciate that. Hope all goes well, keep us updated to what all you did to his car. also I reallly dont agree with the war, but it is his job, and i totally support that. :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :yup:

I got an idea. Maybe you should save the money for when he gets back and he can mod the car himself. I would appreciate a friend modding my car when I was gone but would actually prefer to do it myself. Recommend rethinking your efforts. Of course you know him personally. We don't.

The whole thing has come to a grinding halt. His wife got cold feet last weekend. All, and I mean all, of the neighbors are whining to her, to include myself. I was really excited about it and so were they. It isn't all that bad of deal though, now I'll concentrate on my Z this winter instead of his SS. I was about to email him to tell him that we were about to do this thing until his wife got scared, but I don't want to start any drama.

Thanks to all of you that chimed in. I wish this would've happened. Also, this pretty much ends my existance on this forum, so later, drive safe, and if you line up next to my Z....take it easy on me!:naughtywa

You Camaro guys get so many horses from free-mods and bolt-ons. That's something that I've noticed about your cars. I wish I could get half the yields you guys get on my engine. The only way to with a Z is FI. Even then, I've seen cheaper-modded cars hang with FI'd Z's. Boo hoo.:brick:

I would stay simple and do an air lid and an GMMG exhaust system. That made a huge difference on my car and its nothing he cant "undo".

I was thinking headers, pair of electric cut-outs, cold-air induction, K&N Air Filter, gears, cam, and nitrous.

But since your not gonna be working on his car anymore, I'd start working on the wife! :lmao: Just Kiddin! Good luck with the 350Z.

Okay..............for a fellow Veteran............:usa:

I think the best bang for the buck is going to 4.10 gears. Every F body should be ugraded to new gears..........IMO.........of course. Seat of the PANTS feel instantly!!!!!!!!!!!

Problem is getting speedo reset. SLP sells an adapter of sorts. Or Im sure you can have someone with HP Tuners or such do a quick retune.

Have a good shop do it for maybe $700 total.

Next I would do a cam.................and with a few bolt ons and your still under $3K.

Have fun
