The S60 is stranges version of the Dana 60 rear. Basically in a nutshell, it's the strongest rear you can buy for the f-body. You will never brake it unless your in excess of over 1,000hp. Bulletproof! The downside, it's heavy, they say 25lbs more than the 12bolt, and 10lbs heavier than a 9". Probably overkill for most f-body's, but still retains abs, unlike the 9". I'm personally going with the 12bolt because I feel it is plenty strong for my setup and is the more efficient way to go.

how much hp can the 12 bolt handle and does the strange s60 handle traction control

a properly built 12 bolt (Strange) will handle 600-700 whp all day long. the S60 will take just about all you can put to it. Both Strange rears (12b, S60) will accept 3 or 4 ch ABS/TCS as standard, and are 100% bolt in. the S60 is about $200 less.

why would you say that it is more efficiant. the price is 200 bucks cheaper and will handle anything, the only down side is that it weight is 35 pounds more. sorry just playing devils advicate, to know both sides of the conversation.
I ran a 12 bolt and a Dana 60 in a 9 second Camaro on the same day at a dragstrip. Installing the 12 bolt was good for 2 tenths et improvement. The basic weight is some of the loss, but the Dana also has more drag with its 9 3/4 ring gear compared to the 8 3/4 12 bolt.

I just bought the S60 today from Eric at Midwest Chassis & Performance,Inc. He said that even though it's 25lbs heavier it really shouldn't slow you 1/4mile time down too much. Only like a couple thousands, I was told it shouldn't be anpything like a couple of tenths. He gives pretty good deals on 12bolts and S60 rears. PM for his #.

O.K. I am not saying that anybody is right, but why is this?
A friend of mine put dual on his truck that originally was a system simular to a camaro stock setup. Well, it turn it into a dog.
Another one of my friends vehicles exhaust bused off(rusted) right after the cat, once again it turned it into a dog. Why is that. And you dont have to get sarcastic with me, I just want to get to the bottom of this! That all!

no problem its prob. a back pressure issue or a cat problem. if the exhuast rusts out i bet the cats were pretty shity. so that was prob the problem.

i've read about a lot of peoples 12 bolts making noise after hard launches, im in the market for a new rear and im still debating too, im not sure if the added weight is worth not hearing gear whine

that has to do with the gearing. if people dont install the gears right then any rear will whine.

Does the Dana 60 whine really bad? I had the 10-bolt, two diff sets of 4.10's, some unknown brand, and a high dollar brand. They both whined like a gotdam freight train. Took out all the sound deadening, and damn man, a long highway trip would cause you to go deaf for a little while with the gear whine on edge of ear piercing. The original set was installed by Carolina Auto Masters, and the second set was installed by a damn good mechanic. (not me, although I have installed 4.10's and a 3.42 set of gears in 12-bolts before, with good success)
Which one do you guys think would whine less, the Dana or the 12-bolt? (4.10's)
My swap was a touch more than 25lbs difference between the rears, although I did use the same rotors calipers on both rear ends. The 2 tenths was actual et on the same track and day. Maybe you could try the same test with yours at the track to see your results.

It is expensive enough to get one rear end, much less two!

I wish I could answer that for ya, but once my s60 comes in and I install it I can let you know. I would think the 12bolt would start to whine faster just because it dosn't have the rigidy that Dana 60 has.
your rear should NOT whine if the gears are installed correctly... also, if you have gears and can't stand the whine then get some loud mouth exhaust... :D :yup:

BS! 12 bolts whine with 4:10's or higher if you beat the crap out of em. I don't care tho cause mine hasn't failed yet. I hear alot about loud S60's now too.
