Hey guys, I just got my ls1 about 6 months ago and needed a place to ask questions about modding my car. What better place than a ls1 forum!
Anyways, I had a question about what muffler I should get for my SS. I'm looking for one that is deep and mellow at idle, but has some growl when it's at full throttle. I'm just looking to get a muffler; no new headers, pipes, catback, etc etc. Just straight up muffler. I'm on a limited budget so that's why I can't afford a whole system. Just wanted your guys opinions on which is the best (in your opinion of course) for around $200.
Also, I hear that Blowmaster (flowmaster) restricts airflow... is that true?!?! Seems like a muffler company would catch that problem and fix it... but who knows...
I know all the brands and have been to ls1sounds.com or whatever that website is to listen to muffler sounds, but you never know how true they sound compared to real life. I have one in mind, but just wanted to know what you guys think before I make my final decision.
Thanks in advance!
ive got a magnaflow on my car and i love it . mellow tone at idle but when you smash the throttle it can definitely be heard, most importantly its one of the best flowing mufflers out there but thats just my .02.

I have the flowmaster and love it. Haven't had any HP problems with it. If anything I set off car alarms at idle ;). Sounds like one of those hemi or v8 pickups. I got mine used from ebay for fifty bucks and another fifty to have it installed. Can't get any better than that :D!!

Another option is to weld a cutout in the i-pipe. then you can be loud or quiet whenever you want. Plus it would outperform any muffler. Thats what I did before I started modding my car. I never put the cap back on the cutout once I got it though. I like em loud!

I have a flowmaster on mine and loved it before I started modding it and now that I have some mods I love it even more. You could go with the Loudmouth. It is not to far above your price range. I cut out would make a big difference like said above.

Nice, what series flowmaster did you get? I think there's 30,40 and 80 but I may be wrong...

I have the magnaflow w/pacesetter headers and tsp cat y pipe. Wow what a difference from stock exhaust. Great sound would recomend it. The y pipe was a pita though

Cool, thanks for all the input guys! Looks like I'm gonna go for the Magnaflow muffler and when I get more money, do some headers and cats. That'll be a little while and another thread... :D

I have a flowmaster and like it, if I could do it over again I would go with the GMMG chanbered exhasut, but I definitely wouldnt go with magnaflow sounds wimpy if you ask me. It should sound badass at idle and at WOT. I dont mean to disrespect magnaflow owners I just prefer it loud.
