I have an 89 3rd gen Iroc z 350/5.7 tpi camaro coupe, and I am going to swap out the TPI for an LS1 5.7, and i was wondering about trannys? Im not sure what type of tranny to put in but i hear that Z06 Tranny's have better shifting going on soooo... I was wondering if the z06 Tranny would hook up to the engine? and my car? Also I am going to convert the car to stick so either way im getting a manual tranny.
Thanks for advice in advance good or otherwise?!?!?!

It won't bolt right up, I'm not sure if it's the whole case casting or just the bellhousing/fittings that are different. In any case you don't want a Z06 tranny: they break easier than the regular LS1 tranny and have dogshit ratios (well the lower gears are shorter so it gets off the line a little better, other than that the ratios blow ass).

A corvette tranny is rear mounted so, NO it will not mount to an f-body…
f-body drivetrain: engine-clutch(torque converter)-transmission-driveshaft rearend
Z06 drivetrain: engine-clutch(torque converter)-driveshaft-transmission/rearend(same housing)

tranny and transaxle are separate pieces, but they do mate up rather seamlessly.
