Stock vs. stock an LS1 will destroy a VR4. Those cars are heavy pigs, lose a ton of power to AWD, and really aren't all that fast. Plus they break constantly, so he might not even finish the race :Pow:
With mods it just gets worse for the VR4.

Yeah there like 3800lbs and its Mitsubishi, so I vote ss. The Vr4 is a rare car tho ive probably only seen like 2 of them ever, maybe cause they dont last

Put it this way...
If its stock, its pig heavy and it will probably break.
If he's modded, its still pig heavy, and it has even more chance of breaking :haha:

With bigger turbos and good tunning, Ive seen VR4s get into the low 12s. The one I raced, was fast off the line. Makes sure you know what he's running b4 you put money down for a race.

I wouldnt under estimate it, deffently ask around about the VR4 see what he is running.

funny heres a site with numbers on both....and i remember motertrend testing the vr4 0-60 4.8 sec..as well as a mid 13s quarter..as usual u dont know what your talking about..do your research before posting :yup:
http://www.exoticcarsite.com/0-60-quarter-mile-times.htm
hum destroy a vr4 stock for stock????? looks like the vr4 is FASTER to 60 and there about even at the quarter.......top end YES an ls1 WILL destroy one.....but its a drivers race until the quartermile mark
tonyjnjz
12-22-2006, 09:43 AM
heres a 99 that edmunds.com tested.....they obviously cant drive as the car only ran a 14 flat at 105mph..........but they tested it FASTER than a c5 as stated in this article ..heres part of it and ill link u to the whole thing
"How capable?" you ask. Our testing netted a 5.4-second zero to 60 time, which makes only the Viper GTS (4.9 seconds) and the BMW M roadster (5.25 seconds) quicker in Edmund'sŪ performance-test database. This puts the Mitsu ahead of the Corvette, NSX and Porsche 911 we recently tested. The 3000GT also scorched the quarter-mile in 14 seconds flat at 105 mph and stopped from 60 mph in a chest-compressing 125 feet

I got into it with a modded one a few years ago he had one car on me when we started and one car on me at 125. They can be made to be pretty quick.

Ok, all my friends tell me they run low 13's stock... They're pretty hard to come across... But they'll give you a good run. Very easy to make them into the 12's.

Low 13's on a cool day, on a downhill track, with a tailwind, zero humidity, a professional driver, and a 6K clutch drop?? Maybe.
Low 13's common for those cars?? Hell no, more like low 14's.

I tend to disagree. Just like us Z28 owners like to put aftermarket goodies on our cars, alot of VR4/Stealth owners do the same. They know their car is heavy. Granted, it not cheap to make them fast... but the VR4s come stock with turbos and just turning up the boost can make them a little faster.
Im not saying you'll find alot of 11 second VR4s, (you will find a hell of lot more Z28s that are 11 seconds and faster) but if you run into "tuned" VR4, in the street, it wont be a an easy win.
Hell, even a crappy little Subaru can give you a heck of a race:

don't you ever get tired of import bashing........i mean there are so many ways to bash them FACTUALLY, why do you insist on making stuff up....do you ever have facts?.......why are all 300hp AWD cars always slow pigs.....but lt1s and ls1s are godlike in your eyes.......13s are 13s regardless....Wessman, a joke is one thing ...but dude your obsessed....

I would never, EVER take any sort of article over real time racing. I dont care what THEY tested it as.
I also never understand these threads. Talk about 'who would win.' Go out and find out! Then report back ASAP!

Right...so a 3800lb, AWD Mitsubishi VR-4 putting down 230WHP is somehow the same as an F-Body which weighs 3450lbs and puts down 300WHP.
Thats a difference of 350lbs and 70WHP. You do the math, its not even close. Those cars are complete garbage, my friend had one, and he had to replace both turbos with only 100K on it, not to mention all the other problems it had -and it wasn't even that fast. It was a huge piece of shit, so he traded it in for an '04 Mustang Cobra. Its fast as hell and has zero issues. Mitsubitchi sucks, get over it.

230 (AWD) WHP is nothing to scoff at.
What would the F-Body WHP be rated at if it was AWD?
Listen, personally I would never buy a VR4, and I dont really like them at all...
but...
They can be made faster, and I've seen very fast ones at the drag strip.
AWD cars are quick out of the hole... an obvious advantage on the street.
Here are some dyno charts:

230WHP is pathetic for a vehicle thats rated at 320HP at the crank. Thats a huge loss, and I don't consider a 3800lb vehicle with 230WHP "fast" at all. More like "dog", if anything.

Bro, I know they can be "made fast". Any car can with enough time and money. But is it worth it to make a pig-heavy Mitsubitchi fast, only to have it fall apart on you?? Hell no, and those cars are complete garbage, so thats what ends up happening. Like I said - my friend had one, tried to do mods, and it was all worthless in the end because you can't make a shitty car anything other than a shitty car.

My biggest complaint about the VR4...
there is no room to fit a wrench anyplace in the engine compartment!
I wouldnt want to work on one.
Anyway, IMHO if any car can be "tuned" into a low 12 second car...
is cool in my book.
I just wouldnt do it with that car.:nana:

I have a 01 SS with SLP intake and Exhaust + Ls6 maf thats it and my buddys 95 Stealth RT/TT pulls from my car like its parked on the Fwy and No chance from a dig ALL WHEEL DRIVE, then again he is one of the top VR4/Stealth tunners on the west coast. "If VR4 is stock and SS is healthy, pretty much even from 60 to 120 where VR4's falls off" Drivers Race (my buddy Eric Roehm) Stock for stock 91 -93 VR4 vs. SS you would have more advantage. Dont get me wrong i love my SS and so does Eric! But your biggest variance is in the driver. PM me with year what he has done to it and Eric will tell you what you chances are. Lets put it this way there are a few 9 sec 140mph VR4's out by you East Coast. Bottom line is potentially, SS could be faster for less money, its all about who sets them up. "If it looks like sh!^ then go from a dig and it will probably break" (Eric :D )

You do realize that Edmunds clicked off the Firebird at a SCORCHING 13.9 in the 1/4 right? And you are going to quote their numbers? :Puke: :ughlaugh:
tonyjnjz
12-29-2006, 02:09 PM
showing those numbers is showing the fact that the ls1 bird/z28 ran 13.8-14.0 vs the vr4s time of 14.0 ....these numbers are NO reflection as to what EITHER car is capable of and they obviously cant drive....all i was trying to show is that it should be a close race ...motertrend ran the vr4 at 13.3-13.5 ..cant remember exactly with a 0-60 time of 4.8 ..once again the race should be close and thats ALLL i was trying to show..yes edmunds obviously dosnt know how to launch a car ..neither car

im gonna have to agree with wesman...these cars canot be compared to ls1's...they CAN be made fast, but our cars can be made faster...were not talkin bout supras, or 300zx's here...
tonyjnjz
12-29-2006, 03:36 PM
it comes as a twin turbo 3.0 v6...they can not be made fast easily????? TTv6s always have and seem to always will respond VERY well to mods ...stock they run 4.8 to 60...with a 5 grand drop im sure..but still 4.8 STOCK..thats faster than a STOCk ls1 can achieve.....im in full agreement with everyone that in a highway race there no comparison for weight reasons ..but from a dig to 60 or even quartermile..they seem to be able to hold there own with a good driver...same goes for an fbody..need a good driver not to spin the tires all over the place off the line

Well you pretty much summed up what I was trying to say. I've seen some fast VR4s at the drag strip, and they can be a good race even for a modded F-body.
