couldn't find my calculator, But in the "ls1 cars" its only about 2.7 % of production.
Mine has the neutral leather also which I just noticed is also on the scarcer side, ( there was roughly 7 times as many built with the gray cloth,+ 3 times as many built with gray leather), The mystic SS has gray leather.
I've always loved the color,+ my Z is exactly how i would have ordered it.But to me its a big plus that the color is also so rare,being a rare car collector in the past,I always look for the different + the rare stuff that stand out. I've yet to run into another one ,+ the only others i've seen have been on ls1.com + in camaro books.

yes mine is from the factory that color. it is a m6 . its a 98 36k on it . thats one of the first things people ask. who panted it . when i say gm they dont beleve me.

Nice car, What Color int? mine also has the newer chrome wheels.+ The SS has the orig chrome 5 spokes.
The chrome just really fits the color.

I hate that light bar in the pics,I've only had it about a week, + havn't even seen it with the top down yet.
Got a good gm connection today,+ found out alot of interesting stuff about the 35 cars before mine (My vin is 100036)Will share at a later date, stil gathering info.

No! I "NEVER" said it was stock,That is my whole thing,
I want it stock (+ believe me it will Absolutely be put back to
stock) + when i sell it ,it will only go to someone who understands what this car is,+ will leave it stock. The sad part is I believe it was bone stock when the last owner got it. He took phenominal care of it, but unfortunatly, wanted to PERSONALIZE it.but luckily its a few minor mods,IE: (Easily removed) stainless SS emblems,They are just stick on like the orig. ones.Clear marker lights,again easily put back
Catback muffler,( Have to make sure that is not chevy experimental stuff first,(Remember this was a pilot car) or dealer installed when new for a Gm exec or whatever,It looks like the dealership May have only sold it in Dec of 99, + this was a super early build (May 15 of 97) So if its dealer installed before it was sold to the public, Its cosidered orig,
+ will stay on the car,especialy if i can get documentation showing that.Same goes for the light bar,Which to me is an eye sore.only other mod is the pedals,Ironically they say pilot on them, And this was a pilot car.(Again simple to change).I went to the Chevy dealership yesterday + everything is still available from them, Which means all orig Gm or SLP stuff,no repros or aftermarket.
Oh yaeh I did get those %$@%$% k+n stickers off the orig lid But the glue marks are still there, hopefully i can get that off, the orig lid is about $100 + i dont know if they come with the orig. emissions sticker.This car will be put back to Concourse condition, not just orig.Just get rid of the little Micky Mouse MODS + its already there.Probably cost him $1000 to put that crap on now its going to cost me a $1000 to get rid of it.
Ps,Yup! those are Ohio plates I flew into Akron airport + picked it up in wooster.The plate reads "ONLY 1 SS"

I noticed the exhaust tips on yours look like mine,
are they chrome, look at the pic of mine + tell me if you think they are the same. What type are they?
No name on them,I think they are just after market stuff, but again, if they were dealer installed before
being sold to the public,then i will probably leave them.The last owner didn't install them, + there was only 1 other owner, besides the dealership. I'm trying to locate him, + I've Called what i think is the orig dealership,but the General Manager either Can't or wont take my calls + wont return a message,Same with the Service manager, but I am DETERMINED to Dig up the history + circumstances on why this car even exists,the more time that goes by the harder it will be to find out.

Sorry no Bird info.But can give a few camaro tidbits, 100001,- 02 + 03 Are all 6 cyl cars, These are the 1st new front end cars built,(98's)#1+2 were gold + #3 white,I know the 1st was a hard top, + I'm almost positive the 2nd was also. the next one i'm not positve. At first i wasn't that interested because they were 6 cyl cars, but then I started getting more
data so after the 3rd one i payed more attention,The FIRST LS1 F-Body Ever Built was a DRUMROLL PLEASE^^^^^^ Red automatic Z/28 convertible.Which by the way is also the 1st Convertible if #3 was a hartop. But even if its not the first convert its more importantly the first ls1 convert. I have to do more digging so i'll see if i can set the record straight on that. Out of the first 35 cars, 28 were auto, 3-5 spd's,4 6-Spds.I've got more, + found out some great stuff about mine + some other cars also.But thats for another day.

The pics are not very good + only the 4th one down
kind of shows how it changes color in diff light + diff angles,the others are all with the sun behind the clouds, In person it changes anytime but best with bright light, but in pics, bright is best.
The 5th down would be a nice pic if not for the light bar.

yha mystic z . with the bright sun mine is a purple blue color. i like it the best when its cloudy, then its is just a awesom color of teal! when i go to car shows with it , you see people looking down the side of it.moving there head side to side. you know the next question . who painted it. then you tell them GM. they dont beleve me.

Was just told by a camaro nut at a chevy dealership that Mystic Teal Metallic was a "Camaro + Firebird Only" Color, hadn't really given it any thought before but that makes it even more unique. No Minivans, Impalas,or
cavaliers, Or vettes for that matter. Other then maybe grabber orange it might be the only one?

Some body is trying to buy it now,+ it would end up exactly how i wuold like to see it, preserved in a collection, a big collection. If I could ever get my act together + build the garage I'd like to have (60x100) then i would preserve it in my own collection, that i would have if i had a 60x100 garage.There are a couple other REALLY UNIQUE things about this car that i havn't let out yet, for one reason or another, but it has a Fantastic History, + I still only have about half of it.

I am a little curious though...why the 'bump"?Are you selling the car?And I don't understand why the little teases about the history of the vehicle.If you have proof of these interesting history facts of the car,why not let us in on it?

I do understand that it is your car and you have the power to do as you wish with the info but,if you want privacy concerning the info then why the teases??Why say anything about the private stuff?

Thanks for the compliments on the car.I did the bump because The Z/28 is for sale, + someone wanted to see pics,(The 1st 2 pics are my Z) so it made the thread easier to find if i bumped it to the top.
It does have the door tag which gives the WU8 (SS) + also the 79U (Mystic Teal Metallic) +79Q (mystic side moldings) Also the other normal tags are there giving the build date 5-15-97, and the 17 wheels, Actually the build date tag just says 5-97, I got the exact build date later.
The doortag also gives the
WD1-(pilot car)
1AA-(Retail Amenity Delete) +
WDO-(Platform Containment Vehicle) Codes, And all the normal option codes.
As for the teasers, Its hard to have all this great info + not let some out, At the time I still hadn't got my title yet from the seller,+ he knew only that it was the only mystic SS ever built, + not some of the other things i have since discovered, + didn't want to take the chance of my title being held as ransome for more money,Didn't think he would do it , but i really didn't know him.Also there are 1 or two more reasons why i still havn't spilled it all yet,one is i would like to get the complete picture before i do that, so i can present the whole story of the car at once.Actually when i get all the info on the car i'm going to see if one of the camaro or chevy magazines will want to do an article on it. Also somebody had posted they would be interested
in hearing about that info , so thats why i let some out at that point,but i guess your right it probably was a tease,it was meant to be more of a little camaro info treat, then a tease. O.K. here we go, some info on the first 98 camaro + LS1 cars.A great guy from GM ,just came thru with some big time info on my car, + the first 50 cars built,
I now know the exact time + date my car was built, painted, assembled etc.
Too much info to put it all here, but here is some,
some of the 1st info i had was sketchy but, this is all documented,directly from chevy.
of the first 35 cars, 29 were auto, 3 were 5spd, 3 were 6spd. 17 were 6 cyl cars,18 were ls1's.
#'s 1 2 3 4 6 7 9 17 19 26 28 31 33 34 35 37 + 40 were scrapped or dismantled either almost imedietly or years later,at least 5 were scrapped in ohio on 02-01-01 for ? probably done there intended service + not released to the public.
If you look at the #'s, the 3 cars before mine (#'s 33 34 + 35) + the 1 after mine (#37) were destroyed,mine is # 36 Whew!!! scary!
Mine was really the only special car among the pilot cars,except for a purple Z/28 vert (#25) w/white top with a light grey int,(ps. that int never made it to production) that was a japan export, shipped to tokyo.along with #27 a white 6cyl hdtp + #32 a silver 6cyl auto hdtp.
There was also a black Z/28 (#6) with a(flame red interior that was never offered on a 98)but was destroyed.
#5 a 6cyl hdtp was shipped to germany.
A bunch of these early cars were used as pic cars for the 98 brochure, (which i have) + its easy to pick them out.
There is 1 car though that is kind of interesting,+ the 98 production #'s need to be updated because of it,Its not super special but would like to have it + did some searching + found that by 02 it already had 82,000 miles on it,so don't know the condition now.
A few things about mine:
"I'ts the First LS1 SS 6spd convertible ever built".(There was a basic red auto SS vert finished before mine, It wasn't destroyed but by 02 already had over 50k mi.on it, don't know the condition today or if its still exists) but for some reason mine was built over the course of 10 days,(Body assembly on 05/05/97 a 10:36 am + completed on the 15th) so mine may have been started 1st, but held up for? maybe a 6 spd trans?Either way mine is still the 1st 6 speed) Actually just discovered that that was most likely the hold up (Remember GM was on strike at this time.) because chevy shows the motor + trans (a Borg Warner) going in at 9:28 0n 5/15/97 + the car was completed at 14:58 on 5/15/97.
Another hold up was the paint or paint testing/matching,There was 7 days between the paint day(05/07) + the next stage Gen Assembly(05/14).if it was a test mule for the color to be put on the SS, because i think in 98 chevy began assembling the SS instead of slp, + they only went to slp for the exra slp options.Chevy may have been testing it because now the whole car could be sprayed at once verses the 96 + 97 cars that were shipped to slp and the hood + spoiler had to be matched. (Remember this color was not available on the SS before this car was built)(or after) .Still don't know for sure why it was built, The previous reasons are a possibility but i Still think a chevy big wig wanted the top model,All the options,+ a special color + one nobody else could get.
Also found out mine is the Last pilot car built (I dont think there would have been any pilot cars for 99-02 production would have just run straight thru with only minor changes,thru the years.)
+ That at least the next 14 cars (#'s 37-50) were all bright red cars,+ were only started to be built 3 weeks after mine on 06/05/07 + all 14 + probably more were built that day, + was, it looks like the beginning of reg production 98's, even though 97's were still being built.
Hope you find this stuff as interesting as i do,I love this kind of stuff,Its maybe a bit more interesting for me because my car is at the heart of it,but its also where all of the 98-02 + up cars began.
So thought i should share It.

Took the light bar off today, + registered it,
saw it for the first time with the top down,I almost had to call my doctor cause i Think i got propecia( or what ever the word is on the commercials for Viagra) for the erection lasting more then 4 hours.
will trade the light bar + my rear interior panels(plastic panels on the side of the rear seats) which are slighly notched to fit the bar, for some unnotched ones. must be the dark grey int.

Its really the first, I've gotten to mess with it.I bought it in the middle of winter, basically trailered it home Thru a cover over it + parked it for the winter.I registered it today but wont drive it till they clear the roads.But the weather was nice so i've been pulling it out of the garage to dust off the cob webs, ,charge the batt etc.+ am getting psyched for spring, It looks like a totally diff car without the light bar. So much better.
This particular car is so much more appealing as a stocker.
