Clear purge?

Anyone here ever seen a "clear" purge before?

I just got my dry kit installed last week.
I had some problems...
I found out that there was a leak at the bottle pressure gauge so my bottle went empty...

I got it "fixed" and a free refill... but...

when we tested the purge... the purge worked but it was totally clear... like "just air" blowing out.

I couldnt test the car because it was pouring rain. It was a cold 45 degrees, humid... and the bottle was frosted during the purge test. (from a couple of refills from trying to find the leak)

Im just worried because I was expecting to actually see it but didnt!:brick:

Im not sure what that could be but you should hit the purge a couple times maybe that was just air in the lines. but it is usually white. Wait a while and heat the bottle up get the pressure right then try it. You should be alright. Get a bottle heater if you can that helps alot.

I do have a bottle heater, but it was off when testing... since it was raining we did a very quick test. It seemed like there was alot of pressure coming out... but was baffled by the invisible purge.

How long does the average purge take to clear all the air out of the line?
I am very new to nitrous, but heard there are different types (like with sulfer added), and didnt know if the weather or type of nitrous might play a role in the mystery here.

weather plays a role. if it was raining, should have seen it right away. low bottle pressure will take more time until you see something. when you can see nitrous soming out, it's actually in it's liquid form. when you can't see it, then it's in it's gaseous form.

Does that mean if its cold outside, it will be harder to see?

the colder outside, the easier it is too see. low bottle pressure is what makes it harder to see.

well... I just went outside and puuuuuuuuurged and got a good nice blast of smokey white goodness! Lets hope the boottle doesnt leak any more.

yes,way too low. need a minimum of 900 psi to be effective.

Maybe I'm off...but isn't the relation of temp to pressure reversed? Heat expands molecules, which increases pressure. Isn't that the purpose of a bottle heater, to heat the bottle to increase pressure? Or do you mean the ambient air temperature, i.e. the temp outside of the car? :dunno:

hence the colder outside. meaning air temp. if the air is cold and/or raining, you will see the cloud easier. higher bottle pressure makes the nitrous a liquid inside the bottle.

They make a bottle heater my broham found that actually plugs into the cig lighter. Talk about an easy install!! I think it was around $125 and he bought an extension at Radio Shake for $10 to reach the trunk. If you want to make it simple, I would run this heater. Just make sure to only run it while driving your car or it will prob run your battery out. Some people are scared of the wiring...I would much rather see you use this heater than no heater at all! Get it into the green and your power will be amazing!

When you guys fill up your 10lb bottle...

what is the psi range you average when using the nitrous??
(with or without the heater on) max/min

About when do you know to fill up again? Is there a low range? or do you wait for it to cut off/go empty?

depends on what the kit says your range should be. most kits run in the 950-1050 psi range.

what i've found out is you'll use about 1lb nitrous per 100hp level per 1/4 mile run. a couple things you'll notice is if you are using a bottle heater and can't get the pressure up to where you need it, most likely, you'll be around 1-2 lbs left.

the pressure can drop below 950 even when it's full. especially during colder months. that's where having a bottle heater comes into play. and during the run, the bottle pressure will drop below 950 psi almost instantly if you start at 1000 psi.

some systems, like TNT, are rated at 900 psi.

I was told you could get 6-8 runs on one bottle with a 100 shot.

On my first purge I usually get a white cloud, but anything after that it is usually clear. I have a pretty long length of 1/4" tubing, figure that is a contributing factor. FWIW
