Ok, now i wasnt the smartest kid in school, but i do know that the engine's ideal runnin temp is 99 degrees C. Anything below will cause the computer to pour in more fuel, which is comman in Cold starts.

So why am i findin more people going to 160F and 180F?

Isnt more raw fuel in the camber, in the long run, a bad idea?

Your talking closed loop mode and yes it richens the air fuel in closed loop. Folks also will tell you a cooler engine makes more horsepower and this is yet one of the "tricks" to get it to run cooler. Here is a good discussion on the return on investment....http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33667

If its in closed loop, it'll try to run 14.7:1 all the time. Regardless of what thermostat is in there.

I once got 33mpg on a whole tank while running a 160* thermostat...guess it was dumping fuel in

YES YOU MAKE MORE POWER WITH A LEAN TUNE THAN A RICH ONE.........And running a 160 is not recommended in MY opion!!!! I've sold parts at speed shops for 8 years and tuned many over the years...... 160 90% of the time will make your car run hotter than if you run a Hi-Flow 185*...... When you run a 160 it NEVER STAYS SHUT...... OK so think about it if your coolant ios movinmg at 10mph NONE STOP through the radiator it will never cool. It's designed to be held in the radiator for a period of time to cool.... Then the thermostat opens and the cool coolant is pumped into the engine and the cycle starts again.
Hope i helped.
