I have an 04 gto with straight pipes. Whenever i accelerate, change gears, or deccelerate a little chirping/squeeking sound can be heard. Took it to a midas to have it looked at. they raised it up but could not figure out what it was. anybody on here have any ideas?

My '04 does too. MY dealer said that that's normal, but didn't offer/have a fix for it. I'm not too woried as I want to install an aftermarket or custom exhaust for it. I guess I'll be waiting untill it goes out of warranty though.
Lord knows I've taken it to the dealer enough that I don't want to lose the warranty.:growl:

Drove my ass crazy forever until one day we had her up on the lift and my wrench sez....your exhaust is rubbing right here....and he pointed to the drivers side about a foot behind the cat....there is a "ridge" where to sheets of metal had been spot welded and as the car "moved" the exhaust would barely touch it a "chirp".....I beat the metal down about a 1/4 inch and have never had the chirp again :)

I will be checking that out during the next oil change. Thanks!

If you have the single side exhaust check near the rear where the two pipes are welded together with a strip of metal on top of them. Mine broke a weld on one pipe and they were rubbing and squeaking like hell. Pushed the metal strip up and away and no problem since.

yeah i took my gto to a shop and sure enough the pipes were rubbing together. they added some more ties and tightened all the pipes up. Sounds smooth. Not a squeek.
