As I look through this forum I see so many posts about LS1's having all sorts of problems especially after 100k miles. That doesn't sound very reliable to me, yet a lot of people swear these are reliable engines. So what is it? Lets say at 100k miles an LS1, that has been driven hard but given regular maintanence and oil changes, would it still be strong/good for more mods in most cases?

If it's taken care of no problem. I've seen/heard quite a few 100k + LS1's that are modded drivin hard with no major problems. I don't think they have any more problems than the average engine. IMO any motor over 65k should be rebuilt for best reliable performance if your planning on doing big mods and pushing it hard often.

i bought mine with over 100k and it was bone stock. given the overall appearance of the car, i'm the moron for buying it...the rod bearings, or at least one, went at 133 on the odo...I would venture to say it wasn't well maintained at all...

like any other motor though, i agree with Hot Black, if it has anything over that 60-70 mark and you plan heavy mods, it should be rebuilt anyway

all engines over 100k are subject to taking a shit if driven hard, not only LS1s

they can last over 200k if taken care of.

My friend has 160k on his 6spd LS1 and beats the piss out of it and it takes it like a champ.

Ive had two....one with 86k and my new one has only 40.....but I havnt seen an ls1 with any major problems that werent caused by ignorance, or poor maintenance

wow that was a really cool link....makes me think about glueing together popsicle sticks into wings, making a seat on top of my ls1 and throwing a propeller on it

I just turned 136,000, still going strong. If it was not for Smog in CA. I would Mod more. Just my $.02.

as the case with mine, the previous owner was a dirtbag...unlike the guy who had my S10 Blazer....285,000 miles and it ran like a champ!
