Shifter Question?

Do any of you guys have an aftermarket shifter on you Ws6 or SS? Because I was thinking of getting rid the hurst shifter for something shorter and more solid like my pro5.0 I have im my mustang. But I dont know if its worth because the hurst is already kind of aftermarket..... what do you guys think?

The stock hurst shifter sucks. I don't think it's any better than the standard one. You can't do better than the 5.0 shifter.

I first replaced the stick on my Hurst with one of those short, solid mount sticks off ebay - $20. It made a nice rigid short throw. I like it, a lot. I then thought to go one better and bought a used pro5.0 in excellent shape. Went through the process of making a gasket et al. to eliminate the chattering noise associated with these aftermarket units. To shorten the story, the Hurst with short solid stick is great IMHO and the pro5.0 is also great but it still makes that chattering at certain rpm. To me, both shift very well and I can't say the pro5.0 is noticeably better. Before replacing the shifter in your LS1, look into fixing the slave cylinder line restriction. This is the most overlooked cause of missed shifts. People may think the shifter is the culprit but it is known that the restriction placed in the LS1 clutch hydraulics is a definite limitation on how fast your clutch can react in high speed, repeat gear changes.

Another vote for the B&M ripper. One of the best things I've done IMO. I've driven another WS6 with the Hurst, and it was alright, but if that had been my car I would have ended up replacing it anyway.

I recently got the Lou's Short Stick for the stock Hurst. I am very pleased with it. Feels really good. I have chattering, but it's from my throwout bearing. That should go away when I replace the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate/throwout bearing next year.

I'm running mid 13's at the track with my clutch slipping, so it has to go!

I upgraded my stock Hurst ST to a Pro 5.0. Night and day difference in terms of precision, feel, and smoothness. Its much more of a direct feel compared to the Hurst. Definitely worth the upgrade, you won't ever want to use the Hurst again :)

personally, I have a pro billet by hurst. I like it a lot. I've tried a 5.0 and BM and I like the pro billet

Thanks for the help guys...I love the Pro5.0 in my mustang but I just wanted to make sure. The hurst shifts great still but its a little loose and a little longer then I prefer! Thanks again.

I have a Pro 50 with a LSS and love it. Just like the old hurst I had in the trmec in my old stang.
