Streaks on hood and spoiler every time I wax?

I have a 99 Black Camaro SS with 38,000 miles it is kept in a garage and only driven on weekends, it has never been repainted either, Every time I wax my car the hood and spoiler get streaks in them. I usually can get it out with some water and microfiber, but my question is why does it do this? And is there something I can do to prevent this? Thanks!

I also have a black car and all I use on it is Zaino. Never had any problems with streaks. No swirls or scratches.

Maybe I'll finally have to break down and get some, I've tried Mother's several differnet kinds of Meguiars and some Eagle One. They all do it, I guess I'll buy some Zaino over the winter and try it next season.

I've also had that problem before. The reason mine was streaking was because I would wax in either direct sunlight or on a hot panel. This makes it harder for the wax to cure, which makes it harder to wipe off. After I've realized this, I now wax in my garage when the paint is cold, and I've never been more pleased with the results! I've used Black Magic Liquid Wax before, and I can honestly say that's crap. But, I just did the entire Mothers 3-stage system beginning with the clay bar, and it now looks like it just came off the showroom floor. There are absolutely no streaks and the paint now shines, haze free! If you don't want to spend 5 hours doing the entire car like I did, then you can just simply wax without stripping, sealing, or polishing. It will still look great with no streaks or haze.
So basically, don't wax in the sun (no matter how cold is it outside), and don't wax if the paint is hot. Otherwise, the wax will stay hazed and will streak if wiped off. I hope this reply helped!

I have also used the mothers 3 stage wax system and those are the best results I have seen from any waxing system, I have a black 99 Z28 and I was damn impressed :yup:

Thanks for the replys I always wash and wax my car when it's cool and especially out of the sun!!! I think we may have found part of the problem on another forum the hood and spoiler are the only pieces doing it and those are the only SLP pieces on the car! Their paint methods must be diff than the factory!!! I have tried the mothers system as well and it still streaked. Oh and I never get in a hurry cleaning it's usually an all day affair for me!

do you wax in swirls/circle motions ? I used to, and now I wax in a straight line. I've only ever used meguiars gold class on my SS, and the straight line waxing has cut down on the swirl marks big time. Give it a try.

It seems that I'm already doing the right things I never wax in circles always complete straight motions, I quit using Gold Class b/c I wasn't impressed with the finish and really hated the amount of dust it created when removing it, black cars are no fun when you make a lot of dust!

I'll keep that in mind when I buy some and try it I still won't do it in the sun though b/c here in OK you can't wash in the sun b/c it's usually around 90-100+ degrees in the summer and it dries to fast!

The nice thing about Zaino, there is none of that chalky dust. And Zaino doesn't dry too fast.

Yeah i hate the dust and as far as drying to fast I was talking about the soap and water and I just hate cleaning hot vehicles it makes things seem more difficult!

try washing it with dawn first.... you may have a wax build up. thats what I have to do. I waxed something on my car every time I washed it (at least 2 times a week). It was starting to smear and leave little white dots.

Two things will cause that.
1. Temperature of the metal when you put the wax on. 60f-80f is where you want to be.
2. Road grime/old wax still on when you wax over it.

I would clay bar the crap out of it...or use the Maguires three step...step 1 is the cleaning agent/process......
I was going through the exact same thing myself....The Maguires step 1 cleaned the paint thoroughly and from there on out it has been streak free....looks wet...like you can stick your finger in it.....

The claybar doesn't make a difference it does it either way and these pieces are fiberglass not metal. Either way doesn't matter it's never hot I always start first thing in the morning after it's sat overnight or possible even a week or two. I think it's got to be built up wax I'll let ya'll know after the next time I clean it! Thanks!!!

If you do have streaks, I've heard if you park it in the sun and let the wax heat back up, then pull it into the shade and buff it with a clean towel it will take streaks/swirl marks out.

I gave up on carnauba wax it always seems to leave a filmy haze.

Ditto. I've just heard that the wax will melt back down into a smooth finish and then you can buff it.

I've never tried that before, however I did use dish soap to strip the old wax and re-waxed it worked great, no streaks whatsoever!!!! I guess I just how to much build up on it!
