Front brake rotors warped again [Archive] - LS1 Performance Information

This is the second time that these Bauer rotors are wraped. Soon after I bought the car the rotors warped I had them ground like a flywheel. They lasted about 5000 miles. I am using metallic pads with stock calipers. IS it the metallic pads or the calipers? I have read on here that the fix is the Corvette rotors. Why is this. Any good way to get these things staright again?

Use ceramic pads instead.

I also use Auto Zone Rotors

Just had F Body Central in Baltimore do 4 POWERSLOT Slotted rotors and new pads on all four corners.
Brakes normally if you drive normally, unless you really push into the pedal then it starts to brake hard. With some agressive driving, once you get some heat in the pads, it brakes extremely well. No warping to speak of, but then again, it's only seen about 1000 miles since then and mostly on the highway....but it slows very smartly from 110!!! Waaaayyy better than stock.

I agree with the Brembo OEM replacements. I had a '98 Firebird Formula with the same problem. The rotors warped and I had them turned once with same results. I then went to the Brembo OEM replacement rotors with ceramic pads and had no problems. I have since sold the car and bought an '02 Trans Am. So far so good with the original rotors with 28,000 miles on the car but I am waiting.

Hey, Brembo's or even the Autozone rotors are TONS better than the factory rotors, you won't regret it...

Also fyi, blank rotors stop better, more surface area...

I decided I'm going with AutoZone's Duralast rotors. Talked to a few people about them and the general consensus is they'll be fine... a lot better than the GM rotors, anyway.

I figured blank rotors stopped better... I was just thinking the metallic pads were generating too much heat. I'll give the Duralast rotors & ceramic pads a go & see how they fare.

Mine are also warped (on the 3rd set already). Not nearly as bad as the first 2 times, but I've decided GM rotors aren't gonna cut it, period. Anyone got any suggestions? Is slotted/drilled the way to go? I have easy access to an Auto Zone... I hear theirs are satisfactory...

slotted/drilled will make matters even worse, not to mention that it'll hinder braking performance vs same rotor not drilled.

I doubt that. I have used slotted Brembo rotors for 110K on my car with suoerior results. Brembo clearly states that it's OEM replacement blanks are not for high performance driving of any sort. They only recommend their slotted rotors for autocrossing or road racing.

Brembo blanks here...just got em from Tirerack. Went with HPS Hawk pads and I love the setup so far

The Brembo blanks are a great deal for an excellent product. I would recommend the Satisfied Grand Sport 6 Ceramic high performance pads in the front as they have a much better initial bite than the Hawk HPS pads.

just go get a set of Baer Eradispeeds. They are the best bang for the buck and have a lifetime limited warranty against warpage. I had them on my 98 Z28 A4 and abused the hell out of them on the German Autobahn, tracks and street. They NEVER warped. They look bad-ass too. Can't beat it. When my stocks warp on my '02 WS6, I'm getting the Eradispeeds for this car too.

Eradispeeds are way overpriced, you will do alot better with several different brands including Brembo or Power Slot. For the price of the front Eradispeeds you can but front and rear rotors. I still prefer (for the budget minded) the Brembo blanks (4) at about 1/2 the price of just the fronts in an Iradispeed.

A large Internet tire retailer whose name has already been mentioned in this thread. I got my blank Brembos from them along with Akebono ceramic pads and stainless steel brake line hoses. Almost 20K on the replacement parts and no warping or braking problems yet! :burnout:
