new system

looking for a new system for my 98 trans am, anybody know where to start looking. My friend has an alpine in his. I really dont wanna spend more than $550-600. Im not a nut over music but its time to change the system.

I went with the Alpine 9855. Looks and works great. I went with the more expensive model (1) allows me to hook up and run my iPod through the deck and (2) I wanted a red-lit deck, not blue or green. The touch bar takes bit of getting used to, but works well

I got the Pioneer DEH-980BT Premier. Its the top of the line that Pioneer Premier. Its amazing. I can connect my phone to it through bluetooth and it allows me to use my phone handsfree through it. I can also connect anything else through bluetooth.

so how much did you guys spend on the system. How many watt's is it? And do you know how much those flip up head units costs?

what are you looking for? better sound? more bass? To start, get a decent H/U, if you want better sound id through in a 4 channel amp with some good front components and sail panels that get decent bass. If you want bass then put in a good head unit which will power your speakers, then put in an amp/sub combo. It all depends on what you want.

dvd flip ups? you can find them for 300 bucks or so from onlinecarstereo. otherwise, you can get the pioneer 7700mp from walmart for 250 or so. plays mp3 disks. it's pretty cool. dependes on how "cost-effective" you wanna go. for instance,

let's just say pioneer hu for 250, new jensen 4 ch amp for 130 or so plus wiring $30 or so. that's 410. you can find decent speakers on ebay to replace your stocks for 100-150 bucks or so.

i bought jl 4's for the back, paid 45shipped. jl 6.5's for the front 50 shipped. jl 8's for the sail panels 50 shipped. just depends on what you want to do.

Basically i want a system thats all round good. Im not very knowledgable when it comes to speakers/entertainment. Im more into performance. I want something loud, clear and with a good amount of bass.

Mine is 18 watts x4 RMS (50 peak x4). But I was already planning to add a number of amps anyway. Not sure what a decent flip-up will cost you; depends on the brand and where you buy. I've spent maybe just a little over $4K. Didn't want anything too flashy. Just really good sound, and something that looks good.

i got the my hu for $400 from ebay. a good system will always depend on how good ur hu is. it has 3 preouts,one for the front speakers and one for the rear speakers and the other for the sub. I bought an amp for my speakers. If u want great sound, I would really recommend buying a 4 channel amp for just the speakers. the difference is light and day.
