Well, after grenading two poorly built 10 bolts i broke down and got a brand new strange 12 bolt. i was wondering what the proper break-in procedure is for these bad boys? thanks for any help!

for gears, do some in town driving where you have alot of stop lights. keep it under 55 mph. what this will do is heat cycle the gears. if you don't have a lot of stop and go traffic, then go out and do about 15 miles continuous under 55 mph. then let it cool down. be nice for the first 100 miles.

My strange came with a sticker that had the break in procedure on it. It said to drive 50 miles with a 1/2 hour cool down. Do that for the first 250 miles then first fluid change at 1000 miles.

so just drive it around town for a few miles and let it cool for 30 mins. repeat this for 250 miles?

Looks good. That spool will make cruising a pain in the ass. I got mine with posi, backing plates, and upgraded cover for $2450. It came completely assembled and even had fluid in it. :D

you're going to spin the inside tire on turns and be extremely careful in the rain.

Nice buy man. The 12 bolt should hold up great.
However, I can't imagine having my car without a posi rear. I mean its bad enough with a posi and 285/40 Eagle F1's, I can't imagine having just one wheel spin when you jump on it, especially around turns.
Good luck with it.

No, man, both wheels spin at the same time with a spool. But if you're going around a turn, that means the wheel that needs to spin less can't, so it spins.

well i took it to the shop to have the 12 bolt installed this past wed. this friday the mechanic called me up pissed off saying this was the wrong rear end and nothing fits! i called strange and turns out there are "additional parts" needed to fit a 93-97 rear into a 00' model and you dont just 'bolt up' your backing plates to one like i was told. :kick: anyway i was missing the spacers for the stock 98-02 backing plates to bolt up to the housing and some other small pieces. so i have to overnight these parts from strange monday while my poor car sits on his lift with no ass racking up one hell of a mechanic bill. what a nightmare. :shots:

Why did you get a new 93-97 rear for your 00 car?

i didnt order it from strange, i bought it from a guy on ls1 tech who planned on putting it in a 96 camaro. i was under the impression that the only difference was the backing plates, and all i had to do was bolt up my stock ones. i called strange before i bought it to verify if a 93-97 rear would work in an 98-02 car. they said i would have to use my stock backing plates instead of the billet pieces it came with. They forgot to tell me i needed "additional parts" to make it work.

Hmm, I thought you'd have to use LT1 brakes on it. Ohh well, that's hotrodding. One thing I've learned is none of the projects I've done go off without a hitch. Minor setback, it'll get worked out.

i thought the same thing but my mechanic pointed out that my e-brake was different and wouldnt have worked with the lt1 brakes. But it will work with my stock brakes when i get the spacers it's just gonna be a lil more of an expensive installation than i was hoping for.

glad to hear you're getting everything together. That's just the nature of the beast. Nothing ever just slips right on with no problems. There's always something.

thanks guys, ive been driving it alot to get it broken in. i got about 500 miles so far and its so much more fun to drive now! it wraps up ALOT quicker with 4:10's. they should have offered 4:10's as a factory option!
