A WS9 is a version of the 3.8L V6 firebird

I may be wrong. I did a little research and found that the WS9 code is the conversion from a normal firebird to a formula or trans am. I think all V8 birds will have the WS9 RPO code. Not too sure though, haven't checked mine yet. It's basically a step up from a normal firebird and a step down from the WS6.

Correct, WS9 is the RPO for a Formula (V8), a "step up" from a V6 Firebird. WS4 is the RPO for Trans Am, a "step up" from a Formula. WS6 is the RPO for the Performance Handling Package, a "step up" from Formula or T/A.
All V8 birds have WS9.
T/As also have WS4 (Formulas won't)
WS6 was avail on either Formula (WS9) or T/A (WS9 + WS4).

As far as I know.. the heat extractors were only on the firehawk's hood.

Johnny... is right on every account. No need to question it further. If you would take the time to read the sticky thread called frequently asked question you would know all this.
And yes, Heat extractors was an option from SLP for the Firehawk hood. They are also found on several aftermarket hoods as well.

Correct.
But there is an aftermarket hood called the WS9 hood that has the ram air WS6 style scoops and adds the heat extractors. :yup:
Only hood I would put on my car.
Otherwise, the info about the RPO codes above is correct.
And the WS.6 isn't that big of a step over a basic Trans Am/Formula.
The best straight line V8 bird would probably be a stripper Formula. Not as many options so the car is a bit lighter and the rear springs aren't as stiff.
