Best weight reductions?

Whats the best weight reductions u guys have done, with the car still having a nice street interior look?

all over the boards arent you hehe...

take the spare and jack out.when at the track take out the rear spear panels. there is a heavy mat that you can remove perminatly(spelling) thats under the carpetin the rear over the gas tank. where the hook latches are.rear seats.
thats about all for the interior to keep it still looking stock.

for me on my old 99SS.... the list was...

-a.i.r pump and lines
-egr stuff
-a/c (everything)
-rear seats, belts, buckles
-spare, jack
-washer fluid res. and pump

id say that took off around 150 pounds.

with that done, and some sus... weight added the car was. 3375lbs.

Ozite carpet I just did this and saved atleast 30lbs, !air pump, !swaybar, !spare tire&jack, bumper supports, door bars (if you have a cage), power seat to manual, !back seat, tubular K-member w/ lower a arms, TD's, Chromeoly LCA's, QA1 shocks etc....

Dont know haven't weighed it yet if I had to guess about 3350 w/ me in it and I weigh 210lbs.

u could buy two 8-10 pound front racing seats and save about 45 pounds right there. if u take out the spare tire and jack then i would relocate the battery to keep the weight somewhat balanced. u can also get an aftermarket lightweight hood and save like 30 pounds or so. if u get new wheels get lighter rims and probably save like 5 pounds or so on each for about 25 pounds?

A/C system (condenser, compressor w/ bracket, exchanger) ~80 lbs
Sound deadening (under carpet, and behind door panels) ~80 lbs
Rear seats & safety systems (rear only!) ~80 lbs
Sub/amp, and remove stock sound system harness ~50 lbs
Spare tire & related crap ~60 lbs
Floor mats ~10 lbs

You know that flap that covers where the T-tops go? I left that in, and the panels it attaches to, but I removed everything behind and under that. I am thinking about putting th T-top holder back in though.

Anyway, you cannot see the body from the passenger compartment with that flap in, and it still looks pretty good. I thought about leaving the carpet out, but it just looks like ass without it. A sea of pewter and cables.

I can take pics of the interior, and you can base your own opinion. But I am like you, I took out as much as I could stand without making it look like ass.

I still plan to get some lightweight seats. The driver's power seat is about 20-30 lbs heavier than the passenger seat!

Was it worth it, you ask? HELLS FK YEAH! With a set of PRC stage II heads, and this weight reduction alone, I gained about 8 mph in the 1/8th mile trap speed. Went from 88 something to 97.4. Plus, it feels like it pulls as hard in 4th as it does in 2nd. I have annihilated everyone I have raced since, I even annihilated the stock rear playing hell with it.

P.S. Is a crapload of work to get all that sound deadening out of there, but man, you should hear the before and after from behind the wheel. It sounds like I am in a NASCAR or sumthin'.

Unfortunately, it seems that when trying to take weight out of a car, things you remove sure feel a lot heavier than they actually are. :)

Lightweight rims will significantly reduce weight, and better yet - its rolling weight.

Yeah, but they will burn your ass up for a set of lightweight wheels. Those HKR or sumthin" wheels are around 800 bones a piece, and they don't look all that hot either.

Never had HKR or anything like that. I typically buy either Weld or Centerline, as you can get a full set of those for ~$800. You can get even lighter (such as Bogarts), but the gains vs dollar ratio decreases significantly.
