View Full Version : How big of a shot to get into the 12's?

Im trying to decide on what size shot to go with. Im definately limiting myself to a 75 or 100 dry shot. I really want to stay with a lower hp shot for simplicity, safety and traction. (I have the stock 16" wheels with new tires and dont really want drag radials yet)

So can a 75 shot get me into the 12's considering potential traction problems?

Also... I know I will need definately colder plugs... but do I really need to retard the timing on a 75 or 100 dry shot?

Any help appreciated.

yes it can. 10hp = .1 in the 1/4. so, most run in the 13.30 - 13.60 range stock. on a 99 TA i had for three weeks, i put a 150 on it completely stock. it went 12.05. on the black formula, i went 11.97 @ 117 completely stock.

you won't need to retard the timing on a 75-100 dry shot.

Yes you should be able to hit 12's with a 75 shot of NX.........:yup:
Remember differant manufactures rate different......NX rear wheel H.P.......NOS flywheel H.P.
Timing and plugs will be fine up to 100hp dry.

Do I need to worry about changing spark plug gap too for a 75 shot?

Im getting a kit from Harris Speed works, a sudden impact single nozzle dry kit. The site claims hp rating is at the RWHP.

for any nitrous application, you should regap to .035". while they are out, you might as well get TR6 plugs.

You DON'T have too but I would personally to at least .40".Stock is .60".
I was ok with a 100 for quit a while.......

Hey Your On The Right Path, I Should Have Bought A Nx Kit Right After I Bought Drag Radials, 150 Shot Would Do Nice Right Now

If you can, get a progressive controller. Especially if you plan on going over a 100 shot. You talk about a 75 shot now. Trust me, when you put the 75 on you'll want more. 100 shot you'll want more,125 shot you will be addicted and want more . Before you know it you'll be running a 150 shot tryin' to figure out were to get a stronger bottom end to handle the 2 stage 300 shot you ordered, lol. I know I might get flamed for this, but the 'sudden impact' of nitrous is very hard on the drive train. Most people don't use a progressive controller until 200+ horsepower, but I went through 3 trannys with a 150 shot( it was a Mustang though)

Enjoy the giggle gas,

how would the t-56 hold with a 150 shot on the street...would the 10 bolt have issues also?

mrr23

pretty good. 10 bolt won't have any issues unless you present them upon it. basically, you do 5k rpms dumps with DRs and you are asking for issues.

ok then...i think im over the 5k launches..ive learned a few times.....but danm it helps.....if my tranny and rear will last then im gonna do it...i cant even save for the 12 bolt let alone a fucking pro-charger......WHOOOHOOOO thats the sound id make if you could hear me...

That shit will hold up fine on the street!!!!:yup:
The MAIN reason you aint got shit to worry about is because you sure as hell ain't hooking up!!!!

If it hooks on the bottle on the street than there is something wrong like clutch slipping or your coming out the hole at 1200 rpm and bogging it.
Also if it hooks that good on the street what kind of 60 ft times are you getting at the track.....?

Well I Seem To Break Them When I Launch ---i Blew Apart My Last One Real Bad---it Was A Fully Build 10 Bolt-----richmond 3;73 Gears-eaton Limited Slip-welded Axle Tubes-t/a Covor, New Bearings, Solid Spacer-the Whole Nine--but She Blew-so Now Im Running A Stock 342 Gear In A Stock Rear, And Its Already Clicking A Little Bit-

I couldn't hook from a 30 mph roll on drag radials on a 125 hp shot with 4.11 in an A4. M6 would be much worse if the clutch will hold it.

why don't u get 12 bolt that comes with a new gear 3.73 or of ur choice..
it a good 2k+ investment but u know u can count on it... if u do 3.73 and stall it on 10bolt stock it will easily break at the track where u launch hard.
my 2 cents.

There WAS SOMETHING WRONG THEN!!!!!!

How old were the radials.....?Also what pressure do you run........? The "dragradial" tires have come SOO far!!!! There is 7 second cars on dragradials.... Not to mention we have more than one A4 on 150 or MORE wanting to break rearends and axles they hook SOO hard......Doing 1.67 60's on 17's":yup:

Even on all the bracket cars people are picking up a .10 or so by changing from a E.TStreet to E.T.DragRadial. If your running a 555 or BFG I could see it but if your running a "Good" tire.....Mickey,M&H,or Hoosier something else is causing it.

Let me know if you want to talk and see if wei can figure what isn't right....It should "DEAD HOOK" at 30mph.

Newer E.T. Street drag radials, weren't heated and 30 mph with 4.11 = no hook on the street. I am on a stock suspension and tire size 275/40-17 so very little sidewall.

How stiff of spring are you running in the rear????
Also what psi are you trying on the street....?
If you lean on the corner of the quater and push down it won't move huh...?
If so it's just way to stiff of a spring. we use stock old V-6 springs. Unless you've done major sus. work those springs will work better than the drag springs from anyone.:yup:

I took my stock Z28 to the drags with TA Drags radials (borrowed). I had too much traction and power for the weak stock clutch.

I don't think I could hurt that rear end with that clutch.

It went 13.41 at 107 on stock 245 RS-A's.

I don't remember the ET's on drag radials because all I can remember is the awful feeling and smell of spinning the clutch in first THEN power shifting into second still smoking the &*$% clutch before I realized what was going on!!! DOH! :brick:

I have a ZEX dry kit to install in the spring. I'll need to upgrade to a ZO6 clutch before that.

I'm getting some good bottle placement ideas off of the forum. Thanks!
