Just bought an 02 Trans Am a couple weeks ago, been loving it from the minute I turned the key. Just today though the driver's side power window won't go down more than 1/2 an inch tops. It won't go back up after that, and I get a whining sound from under the dash when I let off the switch trying to roll it back up. If I let it sit for a while, I can push it again and it will go back up. The passenger window is fine however. I thought it would be the motor, but that wouldn't explain the noise from under the dash. Any ideas?

Sounds like a motor to me.

Yeah, my driver side went out in my 01 and I had it replaced and now my passenger one is on it's last leg.

Welcome to the window motor club - get one locally with a lifetime warranty - replace it yourself, not hard.

sounds like a motor to me. I've had 6 pontiacs and they have all gotten stuck or gone slow. It's the only thing about pontiac that pisses me off.If everyone else can get it right , why can't they?

Thanks for the input guys, is that a replacement you can do yourself @ home? I don't have access to much more than your basic tools...and I had heard that those motors were riveted in. Is that true? or are they just bolted in?

Yep, there is a sticky on it that Nino started. Get the lifetime warranty , I've gone through 3 drivers and 2 passengers. The glass is big n heavy - doesn't take long for the motor to get tired of moving all that glass. Once you do it and get your holes drilled its a snap, 45 minute job with beer breaks included.
