Mach1 Mayhem

I'm cruising down the main strip in town, and this yellow/black stripe Mach1 starts riding me pretty close. So the next stop light that comes, I get in the right lane and he pulls up in the left. We take off slow until about 10-15 mph and he guns it before I could notice (this thing was loud, I couldn't tell what he was doing), and I chase, but I couldn't catch him before the next stop light. We only got up to about 60, but now I know he wants to play.. Soo, the next stop light comes, and I wait till he guns it, and I let it rip! I pulled on him pretty hard, by the time I let off I could see him in my drivers side mirror! lol It was a pretty sweet car though, it had some nice thick meets in the back, and it sounded sweet!

Congrats, Machs are strong comp. for stock Ls1.. (stock vs. stock)

They are what the GT should have been in 99 IMO.

Actually it's stock right now, except the MAF screen being removed. I know this doesn't count, but I have replaced a lot of parts: rotors and pads, front windshield, water pump, overflow tank, plastic under the overflow tank, fuel filter lol! I still need to change the power steering oil cooler, and the spark plugs and wires.

My wish list for the car is: better wheels (curb rash on the front), SLP flowpac, SLP 85mm MAF, and a Load Mouth II system, Pro 5.0 shifter. It would be sweet to get everything installed by Christmas, but I'm dreading dropping the suspension to remove the factory 3" exhaust (I don't want to cut it)

I actually have a lot more planned for it, but I think the above should hold me over for awhile...:yup:

yea u and i have pretty much the same car , i even had that stock single pipe you have, but my waterpump went aswell around 65k miles

Do yourself a HUGE favor and leave the MAF stock. Save that $$ for some other mod. :yup:
The SLP/other 85mm MAF isn't worth the money unless you are making 500+ RWHP. The stocker is more than enough until you start making some SERIOUS numbers.

I've since changed the wheels from the Centerline Convo Pro's pictured above to Centerline Warrior's...

...except for the drag wheels & slicks/skinnies, it looks almost 100% stock...

The '99 - '04 GT has a 260 hp SOHC 2V engine that makes power until ~ 6000 rpm or so.

The '03 - '04 Mach 1 has a 330 - 335 hp DOHC 4V that will rev up to 7000 rpm.
(They were factory-rated @ 305 hp/320 tq in '03 & 310 hp/320 tq in '04 but were both under rated quite a bit)

The Mach also has 3.55 gears vs the 3.27's in the GT.

Mach's have an aluminum engine block (which saves ~ 80 - 90 lbs) while the GT has an iron block. The weight savings of the block is somewhat cancelled-out by the heavier DOHC heads & (2) extra cams.

The GT's have a cast iron crank while the Mach has a forged steel crank.

A full bolt-on GT can make ~ 270 rwhp while a stock Mach can easily exceed that bone-stock.

Bolt-on Mach's can hit 320 - 335 or so rwhp when tuned correctly...

Seems that Ford automatics just suck, because I've never seen a Mustang that ran good with an auto. The 99-04 GT's were mid 6 second cars with the auto, and the Mach 1's weren't much better. I suppose crappy gear ratios and higher drivetrain loss really takes its toll on power.

He out ran me by .003 of a second. My 8.233 to his 8.230. He did trap almost 3 mph higher than me though!! It was bone stock with 4k miles. My buddy just bought it.

stock LS1 98-00 vs stock Mach1 is a drivers race. whenever there's a car length or so in between it means he could have had you too if your e.t was off by 0.3 lets say.. that's all. Mach1 vs. WS6 (01-02) is a different story, the Mach1 stock vs. stock usually don't have a chance in that situation, but again this is generally speaking. I've seen some great e.t times with Mach1 at the track and he did do pretty well. For some reason the most runs I got was gainst the Cobras 03/04, they are nice.. just do a supercharger pulley, a shift kit and a good tune. easily 410rwhp.. nice.. but they are 4-5k more expensive on the market. LS1 owners can do some nice mods with that extra money.
I respect all sports cars.. hey bring what u got a kill is a kill. that's all that matters ;)

he would have probably had you a little better if you ran the 1/4.. LS1 do perform better high end .. unlike LT1 which has low rpm torwque. run one on 1/4mi, you may see the gap starting to get bigger after 1/8.. I've seen that happen a lot.

Thanks for the compliment, but R/T isn't added to your ET - it's a completely seperate number.

The only situation where reaction time matters is when you're bracket-racing and it's added to your ET.

Even in that case your actual ET # doesn't change - adding the R/T and determining the race winner is done seperately...

Thanks for the compliment, but R/T isn't added to your ET - it's a completely seperate number.

The only situation where reaction time matters is when you're bracket-racing and it's added to your ET.

Even in that case your actual ET # doesn't change - adding the R/T and determining the race winner is done seperately...
