View Full Version : Drag radials for a daily driver?

My heads/cam package (in sig) is coming in the mail and going to be installed this weekend. I'm expecting that traction might be an issue. :)

It's also going to be time soon for some new tires.

My car is a daily driver, and I'm a salesperson, so I drive in all weather.

Does anyone have any experience with drag radials on their daily driver? It's not going to be a drag strip car, but I'd like to have decent traction around town. Also, do you have drag radials just in the rear, or up front too, so you can rotate?

How are they in the rain? Road noise, ride, handling?

Drag radials go just in the rear and will wear down pretty quick on you. I know a couple of guys who have a set and let me be the first to tell you that they will get pretty squirely in the rain.

I ran Nittos on my daily driver. But they are not too safe in the rain. I had to slow down quite a bit on the freeway.

How much better traction do you get around town?

i.e. just normal acceleration (no burn out to heat them up).

I've seen a few people run them up front and in the rear as well.

Also, how many miles do you get on them? I get about 18,000 out of my Z rated Dayton tires, and the same from the stock goodyears.

i have bfg comps on my car no problems in rain with tread on them but no tread obviously no traction. good suggestion would be the bfg kd's. had on back of my ss hooked ok

I have Nitto Drag Radials....I dont drive the GTO in the rain.....so I cannot tell you anything about that....however common sense will tell me....no treads=slippy slidey for sure.....I'm not crazy about them hooking up...yesterday I was breaking them loose on the freeway from a 65mph punch on the bottle...

Alot better. When I installed my Torque Converter there was no way I could get on it hard from a stop with street tires. But with Nittos I could pull away fairly hard at a light.

I would say around 15k
