I am torn between cams. I am thinking about going with the G5x3 or the Magic stick 3. I have a 346 LS1 with a LS6 intake, Long Tubes, underdrive pulley, 4.10's, six speed, and a ported throttle body. My buddy has a g5x3 and I was really impressed! The Magic stick 3 has a good rpm range. This is mostly a daily driven summer car. What do you guys think?
Feel free to add a different cam!

custom is the only way to get the most out of a cam for the same price

Sometimes I wish I would have went with a custom cam. Off the shelf cams do prove worthy also. Just depends on how much horspower you want to squeeze out of it and how driveable you want your cam to be.

what duration would be the most I could use for a weekend driver and still be able to drive the interstate for about 300 miles one way?

Just rode in a MS3 car, and I'm pretty impressed. Definitely had the RPM range I'd prefer.

Custom all the way b/c you can taylor it to what you are trying to do. It is about the same amount as well. It is a 610/612 242/246 114 lsa

I like the MS3 on a 114lsa nitrous really likes the larger lsa, nice idle, nice cut cam. All motor my buddy's car did 391rwhp with 150 shot it did 544rwhp with these mods: LS6 intake, LT's, true duals, normal bolt ons, stock heads, stock shortblock, cam only engine

how's you idle, vacuum and mileage? that's something like what I may need...oh and do you know your overlap? I need something blower friendly, but a little more aggressive than my 'Old Man' cam...

Where is the other on your poll options????
I would call up Cam Motion myself with all my specs and have them grind a cam exactly for my application. That's ALL they do NO off shelf grinds.
Just don't fib on any of there techs ?'s about your planes or #'s. That is the only time I have seen there cams not make big power.
It was a customer of mine and he bs them on what his heads were and told them he was NOT going to use nitrous. Then he brought me the car to install and tune a kit...... Long story short I called them and they still had the notes from his ?'s in the computer and he told them his heads flowed WAY more than they did and it was on a 107 LSA cause it was supposed to be all motor.
:goodluck:

I voted MS3 as thats what I got and read all about it before getting it. My car is currently in the shop getting tuned and soon as I get it I'll post up the numbers. My mods are similar to yours but given I have an auto and a 9" I should be a tad lower than you # wise. Idles pretty damn good. Mine is a 114 LSA BTW. I'll try to see if I can post up a revised idle since cold start and idle tune is already done.

Tuner called car is done. Mine there is a proviso though. 340 to the wheels with the stall still slipping bad. He told me it jumped a whole 70 hp when it did lock up for just split seconds so thats like 410 in 100+ degree weather. Tuner told me that if I didn't have the 9" and had a M6 he thinks it would have read around 420+. Time now to fix the stall issue soon as I get it back logistics probs for me won't be able to pick it up till tuesday or wednesday :(. Damn work. Probably be a few weeks b4 I get some numbers though too hot this week cruise next week and we shall see after that.

I voted for the G5X3 cam in those choices. Has anyone figured the duration on this cam definitely? 114 should make this cam more friendly.

Voted custom grind cause you'll have something that not everyone else has. Something that is taylored to what you've got.

I like the magic stick 3, good lift good horsepower for daliy driver, gas mileage will suck though pending on drive length..

Just to put up the option of the cam that I bought from Vengeance which is the VRX3 which is a 226/228 .585/.588 with a 112 LSA. I absolutely love the cam because it gives me good drivability and puts my car right up to the 400 RWHP mark with almost the same mods as you with a great power curve.

Holy old thread! I went with the TR230. Cam only with bolt ons, I kept up with and beat 11 second cars. I ran neck and neck with a h/c (close to MS3 specs) car as well. Under the curve power FTW! I just got some 5.2 stage 2.5s. My new set up should rock.:flex:
