i have the "expensive" cobra from wal-mart. $150. picks up cops about 2 miles away or so. there's one, i think it's a valentine, it shows what direction the radar is coming from.

valentine here. Very usefull on the highway. never gives false alarms. But like any radar i've seen - its nearly worthless in the city. But i am in chicago. Every damn thing sets it off in the city.

You kidding? First off, youre not going to save that much money. Secondly, who knows if its an updated version.
If you cant afford a Valentine now, then WAIT. I was an impatient little shit when it came to radar detectors and REFUSED to buy a valentine cuz of its price. I went through 1 cobra, 1 uniden, 2 Bels, and 1 escort.
Once you set it up (you can configure it to get rid of some signals) and get used to it, youll never go back. I seriosuly treat my Valentine like it IS my Valentine. The fucking arrows, the counter...OH!
Its so nice to know where the signal is coming from...
And about that counter...say you drive down an area and ALWAYS pick up a false signal coming from a bank..its a K band too. Well, normally it would say 1 and the signal's strength. This is where bum cocks...sorry, cops like to sit cuz people know its a false signal area. Well, on these nights the Valentine will pick up both signals and display the number 2. or 3, or 4...
The new escort might be able to do that, but the arrows are worth the extra $$ and I havent gotten a speeding ticket with it since I got it...(its been 3-4 years now) I did get tickets with the other detectors..

:lmao: the tornado...i'm about 100% sure that they tested it..i think it was in a mustang mag...i know :hide: i was getting my hair cut..and he's a mustang fanatic..he has a 69(maybe a mach...i'm not sure) a 200X mach, a 99 GT and a 72...but yea i remember reading about it and it deffinatly didn't work. i don't think it really even makes since tho does it....the fuel and air don't mix untill the chamber...so having a "tornado" effect in the intake really doesn't make any sense to me.

i have been using the beltronics victor 995 for a few days. really disappointed so far or i got a defective detector. i had a cop pass me running radar and i followed him. when he would just leave my site my radar would stop picking up. he was only maybe 1/2 mile away going around slight curves. how far should this detector pick up or any good detector around curves, straights, hills etc.....so far i am really disappointed. i am going to try another week if it dont get better its going back to circuit city

If the cop is running insant on radar it will only transmit a very weak signal until they hit the clock button and hit some with the radar. This is when they transmit the full power that can be picked up from far away. Also if you are following a cop you will get a weaker signal from behind them seeing they are focusing the radar in front of them and not behind.

From a police officer in Florida ::::We had some discussion on the actual effectiveness of them in a prior thread. Every year FDLE buys all the detectors and supposed jammers on the market and tests them. They have varying levels of effectiveness based on the variables of traffic, environment, and how the laser/radar operator is using their equipment. I will suffice it to say I don't know ANY law enforcement officers that have ever bothered to buy one because if the operator is on his game a detector is just telling you that you or somebody near you is getting locked on which means it's too late. Braking at that point is futile, the speed is locked. I have only heard of 1 actually effective jammer and it was a science project on a van that shunted it, and made it hard to lock on until it was close.
Popo does write other popo tickets outside their own jurisdictions sometimes (some agencies even feud), so they would buy them if they really thought they were worth the money. Plus with VASCAR, and pacing in low pro vehicles, you may get banged anyway.
The salesman will throw out all kinds of physics blah blah because they are salesman and they gotta eat. Under controlled conditions of theirs I'm sure they test great.
I actually had one guy in BR have me test his detector (I think it was an Escort) and I just estimated his speed and waited til like 600 feet and his detector told him he would have gotten a ticket....shot it in the grill. I've actually lasered dudes on bicycles doing 8 mph away from me at 330 feet.
In theory if you had the right combination of frequencies you obviously could jam a laser, but most militaries can't jam it to avoid rockets with targeting systems, so to think there is something affordable that can realistically do it consistently...probably not

What do you mean, you hope I am kidding? About the tornado? Wrong point, son.
The point I was making is that saying you "heard" means shit. Granted, the Tornado is a bullshit product, but it makes for a perfect example. Why WOULD the Tornado work? How the fuck can it be sold?
User feedback is what I want to hear on all products, even the shitty ones.

I have the valentine one and it is the best radar detector ever. It shows direction how many there are and what band they are using. It has multiple modes for different conditions. It even has laser. i got lucky gave a radio for mine. So it only cost me about 150.00. I've had the k40 and multiple escorts and the valentine is by far supierior. The rest aren't even in the running. If yo ucan afford one definitely pick one up. I got tickets with all previous radar detectors and have had my v1 for four years and never got a ticket with it. I don't drive below 90 on the interstate.

This is what I dont get. When my detector goes off I slow down right away..even a weak signal...I dont need to know where he is or how many police are ahead or behind or to the side, I slow down and wait til its all clear and do what ever it was I was doing. I have laser on the x50 but let me tell you that if you get hit with laser you could have Jesus riding shotgun and its still gonna be to late. V1 is a great detector but its expensive as hell.

You must of got a defective one or dont have it set-up right;example like if its at bottom of window wont work good if your in wrong mode on detector it wont pick up proper just like any other radar detector........ $399 isnt that expensive considering what youre getting. And the arrows, number of signals...call them a piece of mind.
If you get hit with laser, you no longer have a radar detector, but a ticket indicator.:brick:
