Changing Spark plugs

changing my spark plugs... and ive heard the last one on the passanger side is the hardest to change. so if anyone who knows the easiest way to get that one out. tell me that'd b great, plus what tools are need exactly.. ex. socket wrench, socket, and 1 in extension... thanks

Takes me about an hour.

Remove AT LEAST the coilpack from the passenger side. I go as far as to remove the valvecover as well. Much more room back there with that extra space.
Also, a 1 3/4" extension is a GODSENT!

the easiest way to get to the last one is to put it on a stand and go from under the car if you have access to one.

i do have a jackstand... but all i have is a 3in extension? no 1 in or 1 and 3.4in.... do i need a 1 3/4 inch extenstion?

get in from under the car. It's a tight squeeze but the best way to do it with the stock manifolds would be to fit the socket in from under the car, work in a pivot joint, then get the extension into the joint. It's a royal PITA. Invest in a set of long tubes and you'll have no problems at all :D

remove the coil pack and have someone with small hands do it. takes me about 20 minutes if that to do mine :D

#8 is easy to get from under, but #6 is a bitch

I didn't think my arms and elbow could contort they way they did before I "javelined" my shorty plug wrench down the street .. and it was the first time I used about 50 expletives in a row ..

Use a plug socket and a 3/4 socket to fit over the top I have lt,s but changing all the plugs only takes 45 minutes #8 from under the car all others from the top

think thats hard try changing the plugs on an lt1 camaro with equal length shorties, you will find that one cant be changed......POS headers

Knees on the battery and lean over the engine. Swivle wratchet w no extention or the small one.

I bought a custom plug socket strictly for my LS1 - it is essentially a cut down version of standard socket, with thru hole on end for plug body to go thru, and hex on same end.

It goes over the plug, does not stick out as far as regular socket, and you use an open end wrench to turn it out/in. All plugs can be removed/installed from top side of engine.

First time I changed plugs with out this tool it took me around 3 hrs and my arms looked like I had just been in a fight with a cat :mad:

Next time, with the new socket, took me about 40min total...

That socket is useless. I did it all with standard spark plug socket & extentions. A swivle headed wratchet is a must. I got a short one at Advanced auto for $10.

OK, if the socket is useless then it must be a figment of my imagination that I changed my plugs & I'm actually running the car with no plugs...

#8 no problem from underneath, #6 is a nightmare.

Yeah the first time I changed mine I found out that it was a bit easier to use a 5/8 spark plug socket and a 3/4 flex-head rachet wrench to fit the socket. Sounds complicated but from underneath the car it makes it a lot easier to change the #8 plug.
