i bought some mickey thompson et srtreet radials and they are 1/2 an inch taller than stock. my car is not modded yet. my 60 ft time stayed exactly the same (1.98) and my trap speed dropped 1 mph. i hook right up but they slow me down one tenth. why is that? should i find a smaller tire or can i grow into these ones?

damn my bad, i was originally gonna ask about getting new gears to see if that would help, but i started rambling instead.

1/2" taller isn't going to be the reason you slowed down. the reason why is it takes more power to turn those tires down the track because of the increased friction. also, the initial launch is requiring more torque as well. people have the misonception that just because they put a sticky tire on, it'll automatically drop their ETs. this is only true if you are having launching issues.

well gears always help...if you have a m6 get your ass some 4.10s if you have a a4..get a 3000+ stall converter and tranny cooler...then get some 3.73..those will help you soooooooo much :nana:

with out the dr's i cant launch at more than 1100 and then i really have to feather the gas. i still break lose half the time. so i figured i those tires would help. but the whole friction thing makes sense now.

well you break loose with d/r at 1100? or with street tires? i think mrr is telling you need to get your rpms up higher at start so the ls1's torque can help it..get it higher into the curve..but i'm telling you a stall will help you alot with your launches ...if you have a a4 that is

yes i have the a4, and its my street tires break loose at 1100. the m/t's are just too sticky for me right now i guess. i was lookin at converters, but im on a tight budget. i found the tci street fighter for $470. what kind of gain should i expect with that.

with m/t's i can launch it as hard as my stock converter will let me and mach the gas and i will have no traction issues, just slower times.
