I got it on my drivers door, have heard its caused from shutting the door by the window, or something w/ getting hot and cold not to sure. There have been several thread on this, try searching it might give you a little more info.

its from extreme changes in temp...and i think i read some where body flex causes it

I bet 7 or 8 out of every 10 T/As I've seen have those cracks. Mine has it and I picked up a couple of replacements on ebay pretty cheap ( I think it was $50).

both of mine cracked..i am pretty sure its due to body flex..400 ft lbs at the ground might have something to do with it....

Watch the door panel 'flex' or 'stress' the when putting the window all the way down. The last couple inches seem pretty tough on the door panel.
I really doubt it's from temperature extremes, as people all over the US have complained about it.

its a design flaw..not enough reinforcement in the door right there...if you look on the backside of one thats not cracked there is a score mark i guess from a mold...over time from putting the windows up and down they just start to crack...my passenger side never cracked before i started using my windows a lot then its slowly has been appearing...havent yet found a way to prevent it, though i wish i could..

Same here, I went on a Monday to look at my car, came back Tuesday and I noticed it. It caught my eye real quick and have a hard time believing it wasnt there on Monday..But in the end of it all, theres a crack.

It's funny because I noticed a crack in my 2002 TA passenger's door a couple of months ago. It's almost completely vertical. It was so completely straight vertically I thought it was a stock separation of the door panel that I didn't remember being there. Now I know. Now I'm e-mailing GM and possibly BBB with complaint.

Had both of mine replace before the warranty expired. So far the replacement panels haven't cracked. Must be that these cars are just so fast that the door panels can't hold together.

Oh mine are both cracked. AND I WAS IN THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED. I was just driving along, no holes, no acceleration, no braking....SNAP, SNAP! Just like that, they both cracked.

Which brings me to the beloved GTO interior.
Did anyone ever think the interior is nice because the car...NEW?
Our interior was fantabulous when the car was new too.

I'm betting it's body flex, and I bet it's way more pronounced in cars with T-tops....I have a '97 T/A hardtop with 61K miles...neither door pannel is cracked. I also have a '99 WS6 Formula with T-tops, only 30K miles....both driver and passenger side door panels are cracked...just curious...if you have cracked door pannels, do you have a hard top or T-tops?

nooo on all the reviews they rated the interior design poor...that has always been pontiacs down fall from design stand point..shoty design and 80s craftmenship.

I woulda said that first, but I wanted to pull out a more direct reason why the GTO seems nice to people.

PontiacFan is correct. When the window is put all of the way down it pushes out on the door panels. I think just about every car I looked at had this problem. Luckily the one we purchased had been fixed by the previous owner. Unfortunatly the new panels are starting to crack.
