Umm.. 6k RPM. Why would you think different?

i shift around 5500-5700rpm, i know i could go to 6000 rpms but i dont want to turn my humble 56k mile v8 into a v6-1/2, ive seen it done too many times

It's definitely not 6k because I'm pretty sure it's too high and out of the power band.

you know when you get your car dynoed and you have so much hp at so many rpms? Isn't that supposed to be the shift point? It makes sense to me because that happens to be where your engine makes the most power.

I went to the dragstrip 1/8th and I kept getting like 9.4and9.5. first off my reaction time at the light was slow because it was my first time and its much different than a traffic stop light hahaha.

My reaction time was like .9 and 1.000, so I could improve on that.

but my 60foot was pretty good for stock I would say. My best one was 2.27

I figure I was just shifting with rpms too high, but I'm not sure and that's why I'm asking the experts!

5000 the reason i say that is because by the time you shift after seeing 5 grand, it will then be about 5500 rpm's which is just below peak power, but you always want to leave room for error

right or other wise you have a risk of blowing up your engine, right?

why would you want to shift at peak power? As long as power doesn't drop off, it's usually better to shift so you drop back into the peak range...which is conviniently red line on most cars. Hitting the rev limiter isn't going to blow anything up, but it's best to shift before it just for speed's sake.

what are we calling red line, is it the .... or the ___ (those are supposed to be red) but when it's solid red, is that the red line?

thanks

well, I'm saying the redline is the just that...the red. Find the limiter and shift 1-200 rpm before that. Don't be afraid of the limiter, it'll slow you down, but It's unlikely to cause any damage.

I don't think I have a rev limiter....... not sure hahaha, when I was racing the 1/8th and had my tires wet and I did my burn out, I did hear it to mmmwaaahhhhhhh ahahahahahaha, so is the ahahahahahah part the rev limiter? My better judgement tells me it probably is, but I was not looking at the rpms, because I was trying to hold the car straight hahaha.

lol, sounds like the rev limiter to me. You deffinitely have one, unless your ECU has had it removed via flash.

would it be the same for all gears? and its not there in neutral right?

All gears + neutral...but I wouldn't recommend free reving that far.

cool, and what's the best clutch out of the ls7 and spec 3? I'm getting one of them for my first major mod.

Always took my car to redline before shifting.
Always produced the best times for me.

shift at 5500 at the most 5700. All stock f-bodies have rev limiter. LS1 is 6200 in f-bodies. Well, I know for a fact in the 98s, but I was told they were all 6200 in f-bodies.
