im sorry if this is a REALLY stupid Question!

but do i have a T56 tranny?

and how well do they hold up to, say 400HP?

Yes you do. And with a decent clutch, yes.

With a stage 3 or better. I've seen stage 1's go out shortly when they were run on 400rwhp even tho they are rated. Only other thing is don't miss a shift with 400 at the wheels cuz you will be replacing those synchros asap.

is a stage 3 a drivable clutch for every day use? and arent they kinda expensive? would a stage 2 clutch work?

Syncros are one of the few things in the tranny to not care about HP. I'd be more concerned with gear thicknessess, bearings, shafts, casing, etc. As far as what it'll hold, depends on how you drive. If you're serious about dragging and launching a high HP car, you'd be leaning heavy on a TH400.

Im not to serious about drag racing i just want a GOOD clutch and have it be nice to drive it daily. The local tranny shop said they would install a performance clutch for around $600. il try to get the brand and info on the clutch.

some what. i mostley drive a 1999 Chevy K2500 crew cab. i drive my truck to and from work and my car, just when i feel like going for a cruise.
