Ok, i'm going to change my exhaust. right now i have manifolds with cats and 2.5 inch y-pipe with a cut-out exiting in a flowmaster crossflow. i am changing to stainless steel LTs with no cats, a pacesetter 3 inch y-pipe, and going to exit in a magnaflow crossflow muffler. i'm going back with cut-outs but cant decide to put 1 behind each header or just one under the right side passenger seat after the y-pipe. what do ya'll think would be better? more power? also how will the magnaflow sound compared to what i have now. Thanks

2 cutouts right after the headers would sound killer. But you'll get a headache after a while, so good thing you can close them. Performance wise, cutouts don't do much because they eliminate too much backpressure from the engine. It needs a little backpressure to perform optimally. Some see more gains breathing through full exhaust than through a cutout. But a cutout definatley sounds meaner. As fas a sound through the whole system...I don't know. I have a flowmaster catback on my car and it sounded pretty mean by itself. I threw on some pacestter LT's with Y, and the car got quieter. I don't know what happened there, but, magnaflow is a more mellow tone by itself, but sounds decent with full exhaust.

so pacesetter LT's and Y-pipes quiet your car?

They shouldn't...but I think they did on mine. But I COULD possibly be a little deaf now because I actually ran open headers for a few days after install. Loud as shit, let me tell you. But after driving the car for a little while, I don't think they got 'quieter', I just think it wasn't the sound I was expecting with my particular setup. Doesn't sound as mean as I hoped it would.
But don't be discouraged about my complaint, I'm picky when it comes to my car. Pacesetters are the way to go.

My friend has lt's, ory and a Magniflow and it sounds bad ass. You'll like it.

A little, but not neccessarily louder, just a deeper exhaust tone.

The only difference is that its not breathing through a cat, that's all.

does it add more hp?

Over a stock cat - yes, at most 5 hp
Over a high-flow cat - not really

I don't think but I know unless your running some bullshit it will always make more power with exhaust versus cutouts!! Why do think all the fast "door cars" run mufflers now......:slapboobies: We have ALL found that the motor makes more power that way!!:boobies:
Can NEVER go wrong with good set of boobies.

I want to be able to piss some people off tho with an open cut-out and no cats. so i guess 2 would be overkill? just one under the right rear passenger seat?
how would the new set-up i want sound compared to just my flowmaster and cut-out closed? how loud do ya'll think it will be with a cut-out open with no cats and LTs. power additions? thanks everybody

Way too loud. If you like cutouts, then you will like that combo. Loud enough to cause a headache.

I just did a head install on my cammed Z, I got SLP LT, ORY, and Hooker CB, and it is LOUD AS HELL now. I wouldn't want it any louder. Prolly didn't help that I took ALL the sound deadening and insulation crap out, not to mention about 100 or more pounds of other sh*t.
It wakes up the neighborhood now, but JESUS does it sound delicious. Makes my 01 Cobra with off-road exhaust sound wimpy. And that MF sounded GOOD.
I crunk it up with just the SLP LT's and nothing else, and it sounded like an open header track-ready Big Block Chevelle. WAY TOO LOUD man.

You think you could get a sound clip of that setup? I'm considering replacing my flowmaster (came with car) with LM's again, but this time I have LT's and Y. The car is a tad too quiet and isn't producing the sound I want. But I'm nervous about running this setup because I don't want overkill. Or I might just replace the muffler...thanks.

Run open headers for a few days...you'll change your mind with the headaches and hearing loss.

Nothings too loud.....Have you ever driven a car open header on the street?
I thought the same thing when I was 16 until I drove on the street for a week open header.....Talk about headaches!!!!
I would have to say that the Outlaw SpinTechs on a motor with at least 11:1 comp. have the best sound........For mufflers that are still available!!!
I still have my "ORIGINAL Flowmaster Race 1 chambers" from 1995 that ae the "tingy" sound that made Flowmaster what it is today.
NOTHING SOUNDS BETTER THAN THOSE!!! I'll download a sound clip soon of them on my 65 Plymouth with a 383 w/3 1/2" mandrel bent to turndowns.
