I bought my 99 camaro with a borla catback exhaust system already installed. I also want to get headers for the car down the line. Are their specific ones that mate well with the system i have or woul i have to change it. I really like the way the borla sounds and i have not even tryed to adjust the thing.

Well any advice on which headers?

well I had a borla catback and loved it then I bought Hooker longtubes and it sounded AWFUL, I was so embarrassed by the way it sounded that I parked it for a week until I could get true duals on the car. It sounds great now and the Hooker Longtubes added a lot of power, but the combo of Headers and Borla catback just didnt work. Hope this helps

From what I hear the Borla gets raspy when you add long tubes.

Oh well it seems the borlas will eventually have to go. I guess i will see what the things will sound like, but is say awful........i believe it. :(

About how much power did you see out of the hooker longtubes?

dont have any dyno numbers but it was pretty noticeable, especially in the top end. I may be wrong because its been awhile but I believe I dropped a tenth or a tenth and a half in the 8th. hard to remember because I also added a TC about that time and some gears for an overall gain of about 8 tenths so Its hard to remember what gained what. Sorry if this is confusing, lets just say you wont be dissapointed with the long tubes :chuckles:

yeah zboner let me know how that goes. I think the borla sounds awesome with the stock manifolds, but the question is the headers.
Well i'll be sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting.:yup:

I have the Borla and long tubes/ory. I run it wide open and like it. I had Mac headers before and it was really raspy with the Macs but not so much with the long tube set up. You can always close it up some. Closed up completely there is no rasp and is quiet tame. Can always go somewhere inbetween.

so with the closed plate on the borla its actually quiet??? wow ..im surprised with the headers on there and no cats

Yeah I have no cats, im sure that was a big part of it but it sounds great with my true duals with no cats. I wouldnt think you would want to close of the borla though, wouldnt that be defeating the purpose of a catback? of course if it sounded awful you could close it off until you could get something else. :hmm:

I have a borla with stainless works long tubes 2 1/2" catted-y and it sounds pretty good. But without cats its definately going to be too raspy.

i wont be running cats with mine with L/T's custom Y pipe and open plate(ill never close it) i was running true duals(to low) and now straight pipes with an X pipe its about as loud as you can get without going straight headers which i did in early summer

My Borla cat-back sounded great until I put my Kook's LT's on. Got very raspy and really does sound crappy. So bad, I'm thinking about trying the stock system back on it to see what it would do,

I have borla and QTP's with cats. I love the way my car sounds. I always run it with the wide open plate. Mine doesn't sound raspy at all.

If you are getting the y-pipe from QTP I think it was a flowmaster or something, It is really long, and you will have to cut the I-pipe down to make room. You will see when you do the install, kinda a pain, but no biggy.
