I was considering for my first mod a 3200 stall converter for my totally stock 2002 Z28.

If someone could advise me...
I realize I would need a tranny cooler kit... to keep the heat down.

But what about a "tranny tune"? Is that a must have to go with the TC?
Also, what kind of 0-60 and 1/4 times can I expect with everything else being stock?

(Im kinda torn between paying for and intake and exhaust vs. a better TC)

With the stock 16s, traction will probably be an issue too.:Ohno:

Well after my VIG 3200 (stalls about 3600) my idle "hunted" at low speeds and sometimes died at lights (increased idle speed), had torque management completely deleted (worse on 01/02 cars), increased trans line pressure, played with shift points a little (3.42's)...not trying to talk you out of it, best mod I ever did - just want you to get more opinions and realize some tuning may be required. Traction probably will be a problem. ;)

I got a yank 3000st, didnt have to really mess with the tranny. Shifts did soften a bit but not bad at all. You would be better off with a shift kit than deleting torque management, iv'e heard its not good for the tranny. My idle drops now and then, especially shifting from R to D ......maybe drops to 400 rpm or so....but never stalls. My quarter mile time didnt really change because I cant get traction for shit in 1st gear. It is alot more fun to drive though.

you should get a converter tune.

you will need a tune to adjust the shift points

Thanks alot for the help guys.

Any links for a "tranny tune"?

Also, which would you do the first? The TC or intake/exhaust?

I think this is a subject that doesn't get the attention it deserves. IMO a tune is required with a decent size stall. My car would've driven like shit on my 3500 if I didn't have the means to tune it. The shifts get soft, the idle needs bumped up, and your shift points need changed. Most hand helds now days can do that if you don't have the desire or funds to buy an editor.

With that high of a stall, replace the stock flexplate with a TCI SF-29 unit, they are bullet proof, and both Jeg's and Summit Racing sells them for $199.
