Everything up top checked out great, can lifters cause a loud nock or how do you no if one is bad? its comming from the drivers side. and kinda goes away around 3000rpm, but is still their, bad at 950rpm. my buddies motor is a built 385 low compression with blower. he has yella tera rockers so it aint them. pushrods, rockers, springs all good. also is it possible to pull off heads when have a arp stud kit in car? or have to pull motor to check lifters? THANKS!!

Lifters can be visually checked if you pull the valley cover off the block under the intake manifold. But if you're running the stock lifters, it could be that one is stuck. But then again, it could be the rockers and pushrods. The valvetrain get horrendously loud when you install rockers and pushrods. Mine sucks. It sounds like a typewriter sometimes :brick:

its all inclosed under the valeycover, can only see the first lobe of cam and thats about it. ya this valvetrain is loud also but now their is a loud nock added to it. maybe like you said a lifter is stuck and dident bleed down.
and the wierd part about this is right after the oil was changed the first fireup it started. their is about 10,000 miles on new motor. also use full synthetic castrol 10w-30. oil pressure is good also. i guess how does a lifter get unstuck? :bomb: that might do it :)

well i found the cause, it was the lifters found 2 bad ones. i guess the top of em just come apart their is a stamped piece of tin, looks like that holdes them together on top. and these were comp r lifters not impressed!! so im goin with morel lifters herd that they work great with high lift cams and soforth. pic shows left lifter normal other 2 junk, also pieces i found in by lifters.:cuss:

This is a common occurance with Comp R's, a lot of builders just won't use them. The Morel's are the cats meow, but otherwise get the Comp OEM replacements.
