would I be better off getting headers with emissions fittings or without? My car is a daily driver when I need it to be. Do the non-emission headers require different tuning?

It all depends if you need to pass smog.

get them with, you can always block them off if you decide to remove the AIR system

No I don't have to worry about emissions testing. I'm just curious as to whether there would be any difference performance-wise. I will get the set with. Thanks guys.

emissions fittings are pretty much cats right?

Ed's car is all about smog! Im running race headers(no emission fittings) and it looks so much better in there. You can either get headers for 98-00 that have AIR and EGR or you can get 01-02 headers that have AIR only. It all depends on what you wanna do.
emissions fittings are pretty much cats right?
no. AIR fittings feed fresh air to the stock cats so that they can get to the proper temp during warm up. If that answers your question.

Without the cats I won't need the AIR fittings, but what about the EGR? Will blocking it off or getting rid of it have any adverse effects?

while you're at it, remove the air pump and hoses. This will clean up the engine bay, and save about 10 pounds.

I am of the old opinion that unless your getting long tubes dont bother with headers. The stock manifolds arent super restrictive on these cars. I have seen guys go from stock mani to Mac shorties and not even run a tenth better.

Thanks for all the input guys!
simply put, lose the cats and lose the air pump.
I live in IL where there is frequent emission test. My Z28 m6 is running LTs ORY without cats, in order to pass the emissions test, I had the O2 sensor ses codes deleted. So now my car passes all ODB emissions tests.
Usually if you pass that you wont have to do a sniffer test.
Just remeber when running catless, you will smell the unused fuel. so it will smell as if you car is running rich when it isnt.
Also for the AIR and EGR provisions, block off plates will work fine! w/o any problems

ibanez7 - what other mods do you have? Just curious, as I am in southern il so I've just passed the test for the first time. I fully intend to be modded in the next two years tho...:zoom:
