do you need to remove the trans for a shift kit install?

No....The TransGo shift kit is really very easy...no special tools etc. Nope you keep your trannie in place and drop the pan to access all you need.

only thing you need to do is drop the pan and valve body, take the pan off and then u are right there at the valve body, depends on what kit u are using!

And could someone who absolutly knows jack shit about trannys do the shift kit themselves?

i asked this question like 2 months ago for a friend i already have the trans go stage2 stage 3 in mine. i just paid some one to do it like 3 years ago before i started doing the work myself

If all you want is simply to firm up the shifts, you can just increase the line pressure and get the same results. Saves the trouble of installing a shift kit and it can easily be returned back to stock with the turn of a screw if you sell the car, or get tired of neck jerking shifts.
Remove the pan. At the very rear of the trans at the passenger side of the case, where the main harness comes through the case,,,,there is a solenoid, it's called the EPC solenoid, it is round and black and points towards the rear of the transmission. There will be a 2 wire plug on it, remove the plug.
Look in the very center of the EPC solenoid and you will see a torx screw that is about a size 10 torx bit. You may have to remove the 3-4 accumulator directly behind the EPC solenoid to access the screw,,,very simple, 3 10mm bolts and the accumulator comes right off exposing the back side of the EPC solenoid.
Turning this torx screw "CLOCK WISE" will increase the line pressure. You can experiment with it, depending on how hard you want it to shift. I wouldn't go more than 1 full turn from stock, but I recommend 1/2 turn and drive the car to see how it feels to you, everyone is different on how they want it to feel.
I can tell you one full turn clock wise will produce neck snapping shifts and chirp tires simply driving through town at part throttle.
This trick increases line pressure, which is the same thing tuners do when reprogramming your computer for a custom tune, except this way you are doing it mechanically, and the computer doesn't know any different and operates in the same mannor.
This trick only takes about 15 minutes, slap the pan back on and fill with fluid and it's ready to rock.
Keep in mind this only works on 4L60E's,,,,,hope that helps. Larry.
