Trying to find some info on this engine combo. I see a lot of people stroking the LS1 to a 408. Does anyone have or can share some details about this kind of build?

thanx Mike

i believe you need to buy a whole engine stroker kit with rods, pistons, crank and cylinder sleeves.it gets pricey and ive seen 408 shortblocks for cheap.

Most of us went the LQ9 iron block route when building our Stroker motors.
Just stay away from the SLP motors.....

6.0L iron block from a truck. bore it to 4.030". then add 4.00 stroke crank and 6.125" rods and you have a 408 motor.

you can get the 402 motor from scoggin dickey. uses the aluminum LS2 block.

How much is the 6.0L truck block, and will the new "moderately" priced ls7 parts work with it. I've been thinking about pulling the LS1 from the T/A, and I've been looking into a 402ci or 408.

Definitly 402 alum is the way to go.

Yes the LQ9 block is the truck block...same same....and yes the LS7 heads and intake will fit...

Go to a 402 if you are not doing boost doing a 408 is quite a difference in price for only 15hp

I went with the ls6 block and here are my specs: 402 C.I. Engine:,4 inch Eagle 4340 Crankshaft,6.125 Eagle 4340 Rods,Mahle 12cc Pistons,Magic Stick V.4 Cam,Lingenfelter High Performance Oil Pump,Power Force Crank Pulley,LPA Custom Ported Polished Heads,7.4” Comp Cams, Chrome Moly Pushrods,PRC Gold Dual Spring kit,MSD Blaster Coil packs,K&N FIPKII Cold Air Intake,Custom Ported and Polished Throttle Body,

beleive it or nt my engine dynoed a 827 at the fly wheel. I think its cause of the custom heads.

I would not care about going with the ls2 block its only 50lbs lighter then the ls6 mount your battery in the trunk and that will be the same. also if you want to run boost the iron is stronger.

Iron block all the way....hell...as mentioned I relocated my battery to th trunk and just about made up for the extra 72lbs of weight the iron block has over the aluminum block....and yes...the Iron Block will handle all the RWHP yyou care to throw at it....I bought my 402 Stroker spinner assembly from Henricks Motor Sports in Houston....Like $1800 bucks shipped....here is the build list...
RWHP 512

Thanks guys. Looks like I'll go with the iron block 402. Trying to put money aside to save up for it right now. I should be set in a couple of months, and pull the LS1 out and drop in the 402.

I dropped a 4l80 on my knee once, wasn't pretty at all. Slipped out of the shipping container when loading it into the back of my van to take home. Tranny was fine, knee was jacked up for a couple months. Nothing broken, just hyperextended. And Yes, Iron block all the way. I was going to go all motor but I decided on a turbo setup and decided the stock cubes would be fine for me.

Cheap on the pistons?????? They use Ross 2618 forged alloy pistons......the Mahle pistons are made of the exact same thing.......both rated at 1500hp......SLP has plenty of customers pushing over 1000+hp....

Sorry man...I just saw this for the first time.....Who tuned the STS? Curious...what boost were you running/intercooler?/fuel pump?/Injectors? Curious...anyway...I assume your asking as if your gonna install the STS on a rebuilt LS1? 5-7lbs with an intercooler and a good tune....invest in a A/F meter also....and you should be good to go....the stock LS1 comes with what? 10.5-1 I think.....yeah...properly setup you should be able to run 5-7lbs of boost all day....

No arguments here....I know better than to argue with a guy about his car or his wife.....I have a warranty on my Henricks Motor Sports 402 for defects and materials...what happened...was this...on LS1tech....one guy reported a piston melting....had it analyzed and found shitty pistons (some bullshit neverheard of brand) rings and bearings were all low qaulity...I mean he had them by the balls....SLP bascially told him in front of the world no warranty...from there a few more popped up with the exact same issues...SLP told them to fuck off.....I mean they had pics/written reports from unbiased third parties who inspected the parts etc. Few popped up on other boards....So why bother with all that hassle? I'll just stick with Henricks....I'll PM you some reading materials :)

whether you buy a LS2 (364) or have a 402 made like i'm guessing you did, it's still a larger motor than a LS1. and this isn't a bash on a member just because he'd buy a factory larger displacement motor vs building one thread either.

yeah no shit sherlock, of course its not a stroker, and no i wouldnt pay 9k for it but i have seen them for around 7k on ebay but with more miles, around 18000 or so, so thats actually not a bad deal. With a few more mods that will easily hit 500 hp, which is about what you would end up paying for everything that goes along with putting a 408 stroker in.

wow dude you sound like a real swell guy to talk to anyway, bout as much fun as a brick, and you can get a base 402 or 408 for AROUND 4k, but then itd cost you with the retrofit to your lt1. Here you get a fairly new, great engine and transmission, with a pretty easy swap. Me personally, id go the ls2 route, then while you have the engine out, swap in a bigger cam, put on some longtubes and with a good tune you will easily hit 500 hp. But then again a lot of guys get pride outta saying they have a 400 or 500 + hp lt1 engine.
