I will be changing my transmission fluid within the next 1000 miles and i was wondering if I should buy a deep transmission pan while I'm at it and if I do which one should I buy?

on a stocker its not necessary however once you start modding then it would definatly help to keep that tranny cool. Also if you plan on doing a high stall and shift kit sometime then I would highly recommend it along with a tranny cooler. Heat is the number one killer of a tranny..

An alternative would be to check eBay. I saw a similar, but not the same brand, with hardware, for about $50-60 less.

That's the same one I installed. It adds three quarts of fluid, is finned for cooling
no filter change is necessary and the BEST thing is that it has a drain plug which the original doesn't so you can easily drain the fluid whereas before you had to suck it out or remove the pan. It helps with cooling the trans fluid a little, but B&M also sells an external trans cooler with an automatic thermostatically operated fan which does help to cool the fluid.

If your still looking at this point Try the hughes deep pan. This guy (oregonperformancetransmission) seems to have a good deal on ebay. $151.95 and $12 to ship

That's the same price for that pan as Summit Racing with free delivery. BUT it only adds two extra quarts, whereas the B&M pan adds three quarts.

How much clearance do those pans need? 3 quarts sounds like a fair amount extra. Just worried about putting one on mine and having it get hit.

Yup! You can buy pans on eBay for 4L60E's now for about $20 AND ALSO $175.
Can you imagine that people would be willing to spend that much MORE to get a pan that is Cast Aluminum with Thick Wall construction to add strength to the transmission case, a Thick Gasket Flange that will not bend when bolts are tightened, and a Machined Gasket Surface for a secure seal? :yup:
