I took my rusty ass Hooker off my car while I am doing the head install. I want to take a wire brush gasket remover thingy for electric drills and remove all the old paint and rust. My question is, which paint should I use? I need something that will be temperature/rust resistant, and black.
Should I prime it with something before adding the final paint?
Also, that gasket that connects the 3" pipe to the catback is shot, any suggestions on what gasket to use?

you will need to use both a hi-temp primer and hi-temp paint to redo your headers. also once down to bare metal make sure that you remove oil (fingerprints) and that they are in a dry environment so no rust forms. seal, prime, paint and you are done. also use a hi temp gasket for your flanges. if you have the orignal gasket and it's not broken make your own using the original as the template. hey, it's cheap and effective. hope this helps.

Cool thanks, that primer bit, I would have missed that.

try to sand blast it even if you have to pay a local paint shop a few bucks to do it. get all the old shit off and start from scratch. if not you wont be happy. you should be able to use caliper paint. or any paint that is ceramic

Yeah, that sure would take a lot less elbow grease for a few measly bucks.
