Erm external engine pieces, stuff like cold air intakes, exhaust systems, throttle bodies, intakes, simple stupid parts the make a difference no matter how big or minor.

Bolt-ons are all external mods to your engine. They are generally not that difficult to do. Basically stock part comes off - then aftermarket part goes in its place. Check out this write up by Sarge - its for GTO's but works for f-body's too. http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7757

Heads/Cam is not a bolt on. That is an internal engine mod.

Bolt on are usually parts that don't get into the internals (or touch oil). Cam is an aftermarket camshaft (which touches oil) and requires replacing internal engine components. Heads are just that, the heads; usually ported, polished, milled, with larger valves, sometimes new valve guides, valve jobs, springs, etc.

Bolt on cars have not had any internal work, and like the first response illustrated, are parts that "bolt on" to the car; EG cat-back exhaust, ported throttle body, larger mass airflow sensor, aftermarket air lid, bellows, uderdrive crank pulley, headers (longtube, mid-tubes, shorties), y-pipe (offroad y-pipe, highflow catted y-pipe), exhaust cutout, intake manifold (LS6/FAST/Lingenfelter Weiand...) etc... On LS1 cars that is ~340-360 rwhp

Cam/Bolt-on cars have the camshaft and supporting mods, plus usually all of the bolt-ons above. On LS1 cars ~370-420 rwhp (depending on camshaft selection)

Heads/Cam/Bolt-on cars have all of the above plus ported, polished, milled, etc. heads. On LS1 cars ~390-480 rwhp (depending on camshaft and head selection combination)

There is also a lot to consider on the chassis/suspension/driveline that will help with making the car faster, handle better, etc...

what would be something on the chassis that i could put on my 96 Trans am LT1 6 speed short shift, k&n cai bolra cat back, that would make it faster

Sub frame connectors will reduce torque twisting of the chassis/frame/unibody and help plant the car on a harder launch... (...especially if you go wheels up with more power than you have! The added weight would be negligible at higher power levels.) A tunnel brace mounted torque arm or relocated stock torque arm will take stress off the transmission tail shaft housing allowing the car to survive more power. A lighter k-member will reduce front end weight for a lighter car.

Need more ideas?

What mods do you have now?

Quickly the basics, Intake, and Exhaust. Get a nice flowing cat-back exhaust, and a higher flowing intake. Might as well get some sticky tires as well, all of the fourth gens work better with some nice drag radials!
