what the hell do i use to clean bug guts off my freshly painted bumper? These things are like smear-guts all over it and a hot power wash with wax didn't do any good. I've never gotten good results from "bug n tar" remover in the past but i'll buy a new can if it's what you guys think i need. Anyway; i've used my finger nail to scrape off the crunchy stuff, the wax took off a little more, but now there are like dark markings from where they hit left; the good news is, i don't think it penetrated the clearcoat.

it sucks major ass b/c they leave those flat-dark areas and they're so obvious against the glossy coat.

You can try Meguiars Gold Class Bug & Tar Remover, You may also want to look at the Meguiars Paint cleaner or Meguiars polish.

bug remover, try clay baring, and when u get them dam bugs off of there wax the hell out of your front end ;) clay bar it and wax it ..the bugs will come off MUCH easier in the future

yes stuff is amazing, easy and inexpensive compared to the results it gives 16 bucks at pep boys for mothers kit...bar/detail spray to keep the things wet while claying....removes nearly anything your car can get on it........even that stubbern road grime on the underside of your car near the wheel wells.........mines buttery smooth :D

OK OK! what about the fact that my car's bumper was finished painted in late june? is it gonna be ok to hack it with those abbrasives?

also, can you guys give me some names of products; WIW said mcquires, i have thier wax, so i'd trust their products if they make more, otherwise what are good companies for this?

a clay bar isnt an abrasive..should be fine
id write to zano and ask them.....or adams polishs......also check out adams website and chekc out the videos ..shows u how to clay bar and every other kind of car finish cleaners/polishs/waxs

i have a bottle of that NuFinish scratch remover... doesn't do shit for scratches but it takes bugs off really good. It even says on the back that it works well for bugs. might want to give that a try

My car is always waxed so the bugs come off ok but I use windex to get them off then rewax the area. Seems to work well. They key if def keep your front end waxed even if you dont do the rest. The clay bar will get rid of any lil blemishes they leave.

A clay bar is probably your first safe bet.
Claying only removes "over the surface" contaminants, and won't do anything for you if the paint is etched.

Polishing, not waxing, is the next safest way to go. Wax is not an abrasive. "Cleaner waxes" do have some abrasive qualities, but most likely not enough to remove etching. If polishing does not work, its time to get out the sand paper.

If it was painted within the last 1-2 months, I'd strip off the wax immediately.

Wax is a sealant and will not let residual solvents escape if applied over fresh paint. This will cause paint bubbling later on down the road.

Dawn dish soap and water is an excellent wax remover.

For what its worth, you can apply 3M Imperial Hand Glaze over fresh paint, but glaze will last only a couple of days.

Very, very true - if used on a continual basis.
It should only be used if you "want" to remove wax.

Applying medium grade polish can also remove wax.

I should have mentioned that after using dish soap, you will have to re-apply polish and wax - on a car that has older paint. Subsequent washes should be with any good quality car wash soaps.

On brand new paint, polish and glaze is the safest way to go for the first couple of months.

I suggest any kind of bug and tar remover. Spray it on the areas affected, let it sit for about 30-45 seconds and then get your mit with car soap and use some elbow grease. That should take it all off.

Although I have never used WD-40 on my paint, I am well aware of the mess it makes when it is sprayed on other things.

WD-40 now makes a "no-mess" pen (Item #10075).

If you go the WD-40 route, this would be a cleaner way to go.

Windex works great for removing bugs from the paint. It doesnt harm the paint either.

bug and tar remover, WD/40, clay bar, or install 3m's clear vinyl on the front of the car and mirrors when it gets too beat up pull iy off and put more on.
