too stiff for it's own good?

Is there a possibility that our cars can be made too stiff for doing twisties and stuff? I'm wondering b/c right now i have Koni's on level 1, a tq arm, LCA's and a 35mm sway bar.

I was driving on a dry road and took a turn around a bend and felt the rear start to loose it abit [yes i was trying to accelerate into it]. So i eased off through the next few turns as i thought to myself "i'm soon to add SFC's and a strut tower brace...will that be over kill? will my car be too stiff and want to spin out b/c it has no give?"

would a stiffer front setting and looser rear setting be a better combo?

nope that would help. lower center of gravity it will "roll" less.

Do you have good wide tires on it? Are they over inflated? How big is the rear sway bar? Maybe that right foot was just planted a little heavier than you thought. Stiffer up front might help a bit. I don't think SFC's and a STB would hurt anything. If the rear is too stiff it'll skip around some and could cause you to spin.

i have a stock rear sway. My tires are also getting bald, can anyone recommend a good road tire? I currently have Firestone Fuzion Zr1's and they've lasted me a good 40K miles

i got the raptors from summit 119.00 each ruff at first, spin them one quick burn out and they feel nice. may not be the best but are good, directional too.

i haven't drove on them much. like not even 300 miles yet. also remeber when you by from summit for every 500.00 you spend you will get a 50 gift cert.

Sounds to me like the problem with your car is between the pedals and the seat.:hmm:

My point is you need to slow down for entry into a turn, get it to turn, then accelerate off. (Car control) Slower is better when it comes to entering a turn. This is where you have to learn your car. How it reacts at different speeds into and out of turns. Learn that so you can make the most of what you have, not forcing it to do something it or you can't do. Also remember your car is around 3500 lbs!! It's gonna feel sluggish and less responsive than a go-kart or sports car(corvette).

Chat with the moderators about your suspension and what you want to do with your car.

Until you learn what your car is doing will you be able to figure out if the car pushes (too tight) through a turn. But first you need to learn what tight and loose feels like. ;)

I hope this doesn't come across as condescending or anything, just laying out the facts.

I think it's very possible you can have it too stiff. I was parking my car last month at a restaraunt and the back parking lot has a big dip in the road as you enter the lot. So I wanted to approach it at an angle. After the dip the road it was also inclined a little bit. So it was trying to put a flex on the body of my car. And this sounds weird, but when my back tire was going through the dip, it lost traction. There was a little bit of gravel on the paved surface but it still wouldnt go up the slight incline which was immediately after the dip in the road. So, it was totally weird. I think if my car didnt have 35" anti-sway bars and lower springs and a STB, it would have done just fine.

Actually one of the most critical components of handling is your tires. You could have the SFC/STB/APHR/ALCA/35mm/25mm/ATA/Springs/Shocks and still handle terribly if you are touching pavement with Pep Boys special $59 bicycle tires...
