Spoke with Allen Nelson today. The LS7 heads w/ valve assembly...$400 bucks per from GM High Performance. WOW! Some reading for ya below. But $400 per head and flow 330cfm @.600. Holy crap! I bet the aftermarket heads folks just crapped their pants.

will these fit the ls1 motor? How big of cam would be needed so as to take advantage of all the air? Just curious.

I'm checking on the LS1 fitment. "They" took a stock LS2...put the heads/intake and TB on it with a 240/580 cam and made 530 to the wheels. And for under $1500 bucks.

Thats a lot of power for cheap. Hope it fits the ls1. How would that cam be for a daily driver? Would you need to run a bigger throttle body for an ls1, or would the factory size be alright? Thanks for the info.

Is that for real? For that cheap too? If that head will truly bolt on an LS1 or LS2 block then the ante just got bigger for us GM guys! Damn a 500hp N/A daily driver!:ughlaugh:
I think I'm gonna hold off on getting the vortex s/c and see if this is more cost effective!

I'm getting the build specs and pics....I'll post up with all the specifics I can get my hands on.

OK...from September Hot Rod Mag..
"On June 1, GMPP announced the availability of the L92 cylinder head, PN 12582713, for $375 completely assembled. This is an aluminum head that's used on the 6.0L Tahoe L76 Engines (and rumored to be the engine in the new Camaro), and it flows a reported 330cfm. Yeah, we know. You can now get LS7 head performance for $750 a pair, assembled. The best new is you can get a matching intake manifold (PN 12580123) that comes assembled with 36 lb/hr injectors, fuel rails, and a 90mm TB for $475." - Rob Kinnan
Will not work on a LS1 but will work on the bigger bore LS2/402's etc. So you get 330cfm flow for $350'ish compared to aftermarket ( AFR etc) $2000. But check out the TB/Fuel Rails/Injectors/Intake for $475.

There are some issues with the offset valves and rockers too. You need to take a look at the layoutof the valvetrain. Pretty different than anything out there.

Yup...we looked at that...I'm waiting on the pics/dyno sheet of the 05 GTO they have already got running with this setup.

Gonna be around two weeks. Every time I get ready, I have to go on the road. Trying to get a little time together and give the ole girl some attention. I think I'm gonna get them installed in town, and see allen for the tune when I go to SA next month.
This way I can get an updated dyno on the same one I used last time, and get a before and after. I'd really like to hit 400, we will see...

Sounds very interesting, what kind of exhaust did they run-headers or factory? Could you bolt the heads, intake and headers on and run the LS2 cam and still get good numbers?

So it can only work with 402 ci. or more to run those heads and intake?

I would tend to not look at them as "cheap" but the aftermarket folks getting caught with the overpricing they have enjoyed with no competition from GM in the performance market.
Looks like this is only going to work with the LS2/larger bore (4.125) motors.

Yeah, I kinda figured the ole LS1 would be left out in the dark :D Well, using my usual cheap train of thought LS6 heads are numerically lower than LS7 heads and should be cheaper right?:D

I'm running 243 castings right now on the 402. No complaints...but dayum...the cost is what is amazing.

That is a bummer that they won't work for the ls1. That could have been a lot of fun.

Shit...stick you some LS6 heads on that LS1 and get after em!

Hey Sarge...
These are production truck heads so the volume alone keeps the price down. Get a set and install a better valvetrain in them and they will approach unported DART levels. Remember, it's not just the initial cost of the heads but the additional costs to upgrade them since the valvetain on the L92 heads aren't quite as good as most aftermarket heads....
I'll be doing more testing on these heads as well as the new intake fthat matches them. Can't wait to see the new monster block the General is coming up with too. Supposed to be rugged enough for 2000+ HP!

Do you know what the lift capability of the stock springs is that comes on these production complete ls7 style heads is. I want to run the magic stick 4 with them on my 6.0 liter but am assuming I would need better springs.

Wait. So the claim is 530whp with the heads, cam, and intake gear? That seems a bit...unbelievable?

I'm getting conflicting answers regarding if LS7 heads will directly bolt on a stock block LS2 without having to bore the block. Still interesting hp numbers for the price of admission.

I would not go as far as to call anyone a liar, but those numbers just seem so high. That is like almost 100whp gain.
Sarge
08-15-2006, 08:10 PM
LOL....not really....many documented cases of that type of gain with a heads/cam package on ls1's and 2's already...we shall see together...I'll post up when I get the stuff...

The actual ls7 heads wont fit cause they have 2.20 valves, they only work with a 4.125 large sleeve bore. The L92 heads regarded in this post have smaller 2.16 valves and will for shur fit. They are ls7 styled heads that come factory on the 6.2 litre that has a 4.06 bore. The ls2 has a 4.000 bore and you cant really bore them out anyways, gm says you can only go like .010 over. You would have to resleeve to larger bores but that shoudn't be necesary as the l92 heads obviously fit on the 6.2.

Yup...I agree...we caught that earlier....but the L92 heads and the INtake/TB sure are looking like cheap RWHP! Thanks for the post....appreciate the insight....

Hello, I'm looking at all the responses to the dissapointment that the LS7 heads wont fit an LS1. I may sound stupid, but isn't the LS7 a 427 cu in motor? Is this 427 a small block or big block? I would think it's a big block, and with that being said, have big block heads ever fit a small block? Just asking.

I sounded stupid and proved the same. The LS7 is a small block, a muthafuck*n' 427 cubic in small block. GODDAMN!! Thats hot!! That makes you not want to make any mods to an LS1, and save all the money and get an LS7 out of a wrecked Vette' or buy a crate motor. Damn technology is forever changing for the better.

Nah...aint no such thing as stupid in this hobby...it is a constant learning process. And yes....I spent major bucks getting the 346cid LS1 to 600RWHP...hindsight tells me not to ever do that again....after it blew...and I got the 402 Stroker motor....I was kicking myself in the ass for modding that LS1 like I did...
