theoretically: rain while applying wax?

This is a far shot for anyone, but theoretically, what would happen if it rained on your car while you were applying wax? Like you have half a car covered and then BOOM it just pisses on you relentlessly?

I had something similar to this happen to me last Friday. I washed my car and then put some Turtle Wax Ice on it and ran inside to get a piece of pizza. Came back out a few minutes later and the neighbors automatic sprinklers had came on and basically soaked my car. I ended up scrubbing (not literally) for almost an hour trying to get it off but got nothing but horrible streaks, especially the hood. I ended up washing it again completely in order to get it off. I've since used it and had no problems, so I'm guessing it was the water.

So, I would avoid it happening at all costs.:ar:

You will have to rewash the car. Rain is not just water, it has some acid along with other of natures fall out, that causes spotting in the paint.

Very true. You shouldn't even wash with pure rain water. If it rains, abandon your efforts until it gets dry. Re-wash your car, and try again with waxing.

Water, besides rain, would interfere with the bonding of the wax and paint. Waxing is a strictly dry process (well....there are spray waxes and liquid waxes as well, but you would not use water with those types either).

I'd say I have a serious problem....I always put my polish on inside the garage. So if it starts raining inside my garage.... :eeek: :ahh: :cuss:

i heard dawn dish soap stripps wax off car paint like nothing

which is what you have to do before you claybar it

never use anything other than car soap for your car. the PH in dawn is made to cut greese, yes it will remove the wax but no matter how much you water it down it will still harm the clear coat too, so when your nice paint job starts bubbling after 10 years because you washed it with the wrong soap you'll know why
