whats the low down

ok my buddy has a '00 Z alright....2 weeks ago his low oil light came on....so he checked it, it was fine....well he goes racing Friday and what happens all his oil was gone and u hear a small ticking sound at idle...but the louder he revs the louder the tick....ok so im thinking a broken lifter or a spun bearing....but im not an expert on these cars....so sunday we take off the intake,coil packs, fuel lines,radiadtor,fans,water pump,cat back,y pipe and tonight were gonna try and drop the tranny what all should i look for when im starting to take apart the motor....and ive heard ALOT of talk that the downfall with the LS1 is the spinning bearing issues,is this true? someone please help me out and clear this up

it sounds like a lifter tick alot of times when you get low on oil the lifters don't get lubed properly.

same problem here, as of 1 month ago, i took the valve cover off both side checked all the rockers and push rods and nothing was wrong. and mine is top end for sure so i bet your is lifter as well. i was on the high way pressure went low check the oil it was low then added oil and starteding making the noise when it was low oil. time for head and cam like me. :yup:

yeah we took the valve covers off last night and the rockers are fine...how would i know if its a broken lifter what signs do i look for

ticking for sure... dont know if there's much else to it than that.

update...so last night we take the heads off and check the lifters...all of them checked out fine....i guess its time to take the block out ;)

are u sure? id make sure of everything before you go getting a motor.

I was driving to work and it almost sounded like a Jake brake on a diesel. I am not sure what to think as of right now but looks like I am going to have my hands full.
