I have a 98 Camaro Z28 A4 and i took it to the local 1/8 mile last summer and i ran it three times and in those three times it ran the same 8.8 81mph and was wondering if my Corvette C5 wheels were slowing me down. And if I could lower my e.t. with the stock wheels or some welds racing rims which I got.

yes, by going to some skinnies up front and DRs in the back, you can drop about .15 in the 1/4 mile.

I got some welds with some hoosiers on and I noticed that they are taller than my vette wheels but then again they were not bolted on, so I guess they would not make that much quicker since they are almost the same size, but I was wondering if stock Z28 rims would make me any quicker.

If you can get traction with the z28 wheels yes, answer to the next is with the taller tire ur hurting the gear ratio by making it slower/taller.

Since I have 2.73 gears and C5 wheels, would It be good to step up to 3.23? And since I'm probably going to get 3.23 would that lower my top speed alittle, not that I care Just wondering, because the SS top speed with 3.23 gears is around 162mph so what would be the top speed with the 2.73?

Yes, I would definately throw in the 3.23's or even 3.42s if u stay with the C5 wheels, but u will have to change carriers as well, the one you have wont accomodate anything lower than 3.08's. U will need a series three carrier. And who cares about top speeds over 160 mph anyhow?

you don't have to buy a different carrier. you buy gears for a two series carrier.

Hello, just ran into same problem with my 95 z28, went to throw in 3.42's, from 2.73's, guess what, needed a series three carrier!

because the gears were made for a 3 series carrier. you have to buy gears for a 2 series carrier. or get a ring gear spacer for 7.5" carrier to use the gears you have.

Hey mrr23, go to drivetrain section and read "carriers" . I have made an good argument to a certain point. All the mechanics in my area said what i am saying, didnt look outside the box to post an argument like maybe aftermarket...
