sometimes like 6 out of 10 when i have the car at wot it will stay in second and bounce off of the rev limitor for a while then shifts

i checked the fluid and it did seem dark and had a slight burnt smell to it

when cruisin the car shifts fine and never slips, and never did , the car has 111,000 miles and bought it with 99,000.

do you think i can save my tranny by flushing it and installin a shift kit,

Sounds like it is starting to go out.

Were you driving in D or OD?

I notice on my old stock A4. Driving in D would let the engine rev a bit higher. See if it happens in OD.

But if the fluid is dark and smells burnt. You should probably not get on it too much. You may just kill your tranny alot sooner.

Service and flush transmission , while you in there use a torx bit to turn the screw in end of pcs (preasure control solinoid 1/4 turn clock wise ,it in center back or the solinoid its the large one ,the solinoid i mean ,

hope this helps for a while but sounds like you will need a transmission very soon

how do you drain the torque converter?

Well if you have a flush done this would accomplish changing the fluild in the converter but personally I would just do the fluid and filter change and the solinoid mod I mentioned and also look at whats in the pan,

Mine does that. Whether spraying or not. I have had two transmissions in it and did it both times until I had it tuned and then it only did it like 3 out of 10 times. It still did it though. I have heard that you actually "starve" the transmission when launching hard and it "hangs" in a gear. But I have no evidence to prove that. Just what I had heard at the local shop on day.

Just a note there is a situation in which even though the 3-4 clutch pack is fine and the ecm is comanding the 3-4 shift it may not occur , This can happen particularly when the line preasure has bn raise significantly either mechanically or through programing , You can get a situtation called solinoid flooding , What happens is both solinoids are comanded of during third which means they are venting , However when the line preasue is very high you can get a a situation in which there is so much fluild coming into the solinoid that it cant vent fast enough , This keeps the valve stroked and there by prevents the 2-3 shift until you let of the throttle lowering the preasure ,
For those of you with a tuner try lowering (I know this goes against the grain)Line preasure at full throttle and see what effect this has , If it improves it or fixes it , You might consider getting some new solinoids from a company called fitzall they are a general replacement solinoid but have a larger vent ,
Just a possibility
