I'm getting ready to help a friend put a cam in his 2002 SS Camaro. I need some suggestions on a cam. Don't want anything radical. Don't want to change heads, etc. Just want a simple cam swap that will allow a good sound at idle.
Thanks

I have a Comp Cams 224/224 .581/.581 112lsa. very nice idle with a little lope to it and under WOT it's just plain mean. you will need to upgrade your springs, retainers, pushrods, bases, and I suggest an LS2 timing chain as well with any cam install and then get the car tuned. Mods and gains are in my sig and w/my Loud Mouth system, it flattens all the beers at the corner taven with a blip of the throttle.

if all else fails, ask Ninobrn99 any questions that you may have. (ie: is this a daily driver, what current mods do you have, what are your gaols, etc.) the more detailed you are the more myself and others can offer help and suggestions...

I just put in a 228/228 588/588 112 into my 98 camaro that i do drive basically everyday. This cam provides a good horse power jump while not killing your gas mileage to bad. I still get around 24 mpg on the highway while the city driving is around 16 mpg if i can keep my foot out of it. I highly recomend this cam!!

a 228/228 is about as high as you want to go for a daily driver

i have a 224/228 581/590 112lsa in my 98 ss. it sounds awesome, made good power, and is still driveable. mk sure you do all the supporting add-ons mentioned above (springs, prods, etc). i also did LT's w/ ORY along w/ it. when i am in the mood for something obnoxious, i open the electric cutout and it reminds me of the 60's. just go to ls1sounds and you can hear different cams and exhaust setups. its a great site and helped me b4 choosing mine.
