I have a mettalic noise coming out of my motor. I pulled the valve cover off the drivers side and everything looks ok. I can still crank off the passengers side of the motor. When I do this all the lifters are still pumping oil, when I rev it a little I can put pressure on all the rockers and I can't tell any difference. When I rev it it sounds more like its a metalic knock under the intake. Will rollor lifters still pump oil if they have come apart? Does sound travel in a way to decieve you of its origin on these LS1s?I was hoping to find something simple but its looking bad rite now. Has anybody got a thread that tells you how to trouble shoot this type of trouble. I'm old school and this is the first LS1 I have ever turned a wrench on. I was going to tear it on down but rite now I can still crank 1 side and get it on a car carrier if I can't fix it.. HELP!

Mine was ticking bad before I installed the cam in it. After I installed the cam and retorqued the rockers, it disappeared. The ticking was really loud when a car would pull up beside me at a light. The problem had to have something to do with the valvetrain.

Rockers have been known to puke the needle bearings in these. You should have found needle bearinngs on the magnetic drain plug if this happened. If you don't change your own oil, you might never know unless the guy changing it was smart enough to say something.
I would take the other valve cover off and look for loose needles laying around. Then remove all of the rockers which is not difficult. It is hard to see the damage unless you take them off. The hard part is removing the back bolts on the passenger valve cover.

I think I am having the same problems. Did your computer throw a code or anything. Mine was making a horrible sound on the way to work. I was not in the throttle at all. Just doing about 45. I noticed a lose of power. I am right at that 90k mark.
