My brother spent over 2k on Koni double adjustable coil overs for his 95 TA, handles GREAT now but, they creak and make all kinds of unGodly noises. Any ideas on how to get them to ride quiet or quieter. I suggested maybe greasing the coils a little but, he wants a few other opinions before he does it...:help:

not 100% sure how they're setup, but there should be a perch for the spring to rest on the shock. have you all checked that to see if there are any issues there?

Yeah, it looks like everything is good... although I don't have alot of experience with coil overs. I was thinking maybe some silicone grease would do the trick.

silicone i think is used more for preserving and protecting from the elements. Use a non waterbased marine grade grease and see if that helps. Like you, im not too familiar with coilover setups, so thats the best i can come up with :( That and I saw your reply to the 'TTT' thread so figured Id try to help :D

Do you hear these noises only at certain times? Like crawling over a speed bump or onto a driveway?

Reason I ask is depending how loose or tight the spinner is set to. You might be coil binding if spinner is set too high up. Or the coil is sliding up and down if the spinner is set too low. Is the spinner secured with a pin or anything?

Also do you know it's the coilovers? How are all the suspension bushings? You could be hearing the polyurethane bushings (if you have them) squeaking if they're not well lubed.

:dunno: Could be a variety of things. Check all nuts and bolts aren't loose either.

Just my .02

You may want to post on frrax.com. There are some guys that may be able to provide some help.

I'm not familiar with your set up so I don't know that I can offer some advice.

Are this Adj. Coilovers on all four corners like the G2 setup? Or are they just Koni's Coilovers with Ajd. Threaded collars in front and Springs with threaded mounts on the back?

The noise happens unless he is on a perfectly smooth surface... I know its the coil overs cause that is where the sound is coming from and it didn't happen till he put them in.

I just re-read the post. (I'm an idiot) I would check the swaybar links bushings or the bushing that the end of the shaft. I mean the A-arms where untouched. I just recently did mine and I get no other noise than my poly bushings in the rear a arms and panhard bar.

I have the same problem on my 98 TA, I think its the bushings though.
That is the only thing I dont like about the car. I bought it and someone had put an Eibach lowering kit on it. So my exhaust scrapes on everything, If im not carefull.

However the simple solution to our problem is to turn the radio up!

1st... is the noise from the front or the rear ?
2nd... what springs is he using (looking for rates)
3rd... what shock settings is he using (f/r) and (compression/rebound)
4th... if he spent $ on great shocks, chances are he spent on other suspension parts... have a list ?

1st ... both
2nd .. whatever came with the Koni coilover package
3rd ... not sure
4th ... this is the first suspension upgrade he's done

#2 doesn't make sense.
Koni makes shocks.
if he has coil-overs, not many options were available. Ground Control, LG.
The shocks are not coil-overs... need more info.

On another hand, check the bolt in the engine bay, the one on top of the shock... take a pic to see roughly how many threads are sticking out... that might be loose... common thing.

I asked him and he said he bought the G2 coilover package from LMPerformance...."The package comes with Bilstein Shocks, and our World Challenge valving and springs."

I had thought he said Koni.... guess not...

G2 springs are pretty high rate springs.
Personally, I think the bilsteins make it underdamped... but that's another issue @ hand. Are you sure the noise comes from the shocks/springs and not any other bushings ?
Have you checked your A-arms, swaybar endlinks, LCA, PHR, transmission mount ?

Yes, I am sure... it's the coilover setup.

maybe the shocks are busted from bottoming out, since they tend to be too soft for the spring rates... are they leaking ? have any pix ?
