Short throw shifter

Hey there. Im getting ready to pick up my new '02 trans am. It still has the stock shifter in it, but i prefer the way that a short throw shifter feels. But i know nothing about brands or quality of a shifter to buy. My girlfriends brother says he thought that his short throw was a Hurst Billet plus (the shifter was on the car when he bought it so hes not exactly sure which it is; '98 z28)... Is this a good shifter for my car? Worth the cash? If not does anyone have any other recomendations? Thanks in advance for any info

I have the SLP short throw and its definitely short enough.... sometimes i wish it felt a little easier to move but I definitely love it when i have to chirp some gears

I've owned B&M, Hurst, and Pro 5.0 and prefer the Pro 5.0. The second to third assist is nice. I haven't missed third since I bought it.

^^ i agree. I love my Pro 5.0. My buddy with a Z28 got rid of his B&M ripper for a pro 5.0 and he loves it.

i have the stock hurst with a Lou's Short Stick. Best one i've felt yet. Doesn't feel like a race shifter, but much much better than the mushy non-hurst stock.

I must say that the Pro 5.0 shifter I had on my former Z28 rattled like a mofo. I wouldn't recommend getting one for that reason. Get a Hurst and slap on a WS6 Store short throw shifter handle or buy the Lou Thesz Short Stick.

I'm content with just the Lou Thesz Short stick on my WS6. It lets me shift just fine.

I like my Pro 5.0 and Lou's short stick! There is a package from afterthoughts auto that makes it a couple of bucks cheaper. Mine doesn't rattle, but there is a little more drivetrain noise.

I have the B&M ripper with a 2" MBA billet shifter knob...I like it alot, although I have not compared it to the other brands like Pro 5.0 and Hurst.

in my opinion after owning many diffferent shifters the aftermarket hurst feels to notchy to me .i would say the best feeling shifters i have had were the B&M ripper or the PRo 5.0 these two are the only way to go for smoothness and very short shifts

The spring that centers the shifter handle. The way the pro5.0 is built at acts as an assist. That was the saslesman's saying not mine, but it sounds good. Find someone who owns one and you'll see what I'm talking about.
